Southampton Set To Raid Chelsea Again
Monday, 2nd Aug 2021 08:45

After the capture of Dynel Simeu from Chelsea last month, it seems that Saints have reached another agreement with the Stamford Bridge club for another of their promising youngsters who find their way blocked to the first team as the Blues return to a policy of buying expensively.

The predicted arrival at St Mary's is Valentino Livramento an 18 year old who is essentially a right sided midfielder but can also play at right back.

According to the Mail online Saints have agreed terms with both the player and Chelsea for an initial £5 million pound transfer fee.

Like Simeu, Livramento was a member of the successful Chelsea academy side in the Premier League 2 last season and he also made 3 appearances in the EFL Trophy for the U23 side.

He made the bench for the first team twice in the closing stages of the season, but did not get on to the pitch.

Like a raft of promising youngsters who are on Chelsea's books he has suddenly found the door that let through the likes of Mason Mount, Reece James and Billy Gilmour into the Chelsea first team and indeed International success over the past couple of years suddenly slammed shut as once again Chelsea look to buy big.

According to the media, Livramento was in big demand and Arsenal were said to be keen as well as a raft of clubs including Brighton, Manchester City, AC Milan, RB Leipzig and Monaco.

But the player felt that Southampton offered the best opportunity for first team football.

Despite his Italian sounding name, Valentino was born in London and has moved swiftly through the England youth sides at a higher level than his age group, making his debut for the under 19 side the day after his 17th birthday two years ago.

He will turn 19 in November of this year and although Chelsea rate him, their policy has changed and they know that he and others such as Simeu and even Billy Gilmour who has already gone out on loan to Norwich, will not get into their team this season.

I think I might be in the same place as other supporters here in that we have added another piece to a jigsaw of which only RH seems to have the picture. Another highly rated player and a potential starter but surely signing Livramento must mean that Jan Valery is going to move on? Whilst delighted to see the new faces I'm not clear on the anticipated outcome even though the likes of Long and Walcott are at the back end of their careers. Can't help but think that there are going to more departures lined up because the balance of players just doesn't seem right at present.

6.5 million spent on two players highly rated on the circuit could turn out to be great business. Its not as if we could lose money on them.. In Livramento it seems we have another who can do more than one job. I'm not sure Valery will go but he will have to step up this season to stay with us.

This is great news if true, this and the Simeu signing are a big plus for our exec team who had a mixed recent track record.

On the -negative side 1) Letting Hooiberg go cheaply 2) Not getting Ings / Vestegaard / Bertrand contract talks over the line.

On the +ve side 1) KWP transfer and Theo signing.

On the mystifying side giving Shane an extension and then immediately loaning him out.

Confirmed on club's website. Looks a good move on sensible terms. Sell on clause and ability for Chelsea to buy back look to enable a good deal to be struck for both sides.
