Southampton Set To Take Third Signing From Chelsea In Double Striker Swoop
Sunday, 8th Aug 2021 21:31

Saints could be set to land a third player from Chelsea as they make plans for two strikers joining the club in the next few days before the start of the Premier League season,

The first man in since the departure of Danny Ings looks to be Chelsea striker Armando Broja, turning 20 next month he is of Albanian descent although he was born in Slough.

He spent last season on loan with Vitesse Arnhem and scored 10 goals and 2 assists in 30 games in the Eridivisie.

This deal will be a loan move rather than a permanent move, but Saints are also said to be in advanced moves to sign a more experienced striker in a full transfer.

Adam Armstrong of Blackburn is still doing the rounds with the media reporting that Saints have gone in with an improved offer for the Blackburn striker.

The reports say Saints will look to bring two strikers to replace Ings and if they do so it will go a long way to calming down some of the Saints fanbase who are concerned by the lack of goals now Ings is gone. If they were to land both Broja and Armstrong it would potentially be a decent bit of business.

Another linked option is Giorgos Giakoumakis who scored 26 goals for VVV Venlo in Holland last season and would be available for a decent price even though he was the top scorer in the Eridivisie.

Also linked with a loan deal is former Saint Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, the Liverpool midfielder who left Saints in 2011, turns 28 next week and seems to be surplus to requirements as Liverpool look to rebuild their squad to mount another Premier League title challenge.

He is under contract at Anfield until 2023, so a permanent move is unlikely anywhere due to the wages he commands at Liverpool.

It is good to see Sa

I mean if we sold no one else (or at least none of our important starting 11 players) and did bring in this Chelsea player on loan as well as Adam Armstrong, then I’d certainly feel a lot more comfortable about this coming season. I mean if this all did happen then I’d just see us finishing like 14th where it’s just a bit of a boring season with no European or relation battles, still hopefully we could go on another cup run again!

In seriousness, Oxlade would be absolutely fantastic if he stayed injury free for a decent period of time but I can't recall a season when he played half of the games. Poor lad has been so unlucky, maybe a change of pastures will change his fortune. I don't think we should panic buy this week if the player or price isn't right. Whichever striker or strikers come in will have to learn Ralph's ropes anyway so would be unlikely to be involved on Saturday. I trust the three or four we have to deal with the first couple of games because they know our drills and have played well pre season.

Firstly ..Alex Ox - maybe surplus to requirements at Anfield, but there aren't too many bad players on the Liverpool bench and being sub. for Mane or Salah is still a pretty good recommendation.
Soon we may have a few choruses of Old Lang Syne back at SMS as the return of Walcott and Lancashire brings back memories of that generation of 00- youngsters who were v. good, whilst their first team counterparts were getting us relegated, (although we won't ever see the likes of Gareth Bale back - even if he played for nothing (!)

Even with an injury record ( not unlike Danny Ings'), Alex would bring an extra dimension to the squad, as even Long and Walcott won't be around forever. IMHO good loan deal, and let's face it - Liverpool owe us, after their smash-and-grab raids in the past.

Few of us have even heard of Broja, but if he's another good Chelsea talent then it can only be a benefit to have extra names in the squad in the short term.
The.... will he? .. won't he ? scenario surrounding Alex Armstrong will likely be sorted - one way or another in the coming week.

cocklebreath, there really is no need or justification to suggest that Nick is an illiterate monkey. He is entitled to his views and opinion even if there are occasions when much like myself, you may find his thoughts wsomewhat bizarre.

The beauty of the Ugly over the years is that contributors respect each other without resorting to insult or rancour. Let’s keep it that way please.

Well said Saintmark. What has happened to old fashoined respect and understanding that others have different opinions without being abusive.
Woke I expect.
