Southampton B Travel To Eastleigh FC Tonight
Tuesday, 26th Jul 2022 13:11
For those who are uninterested in the England Women's team fixture this evening then you can get a football fix by visiting the Silverlake Stadium in Eastleigh and watching a Saints B team take on the Spitfires.
This coming season will see B team games take on a more attractive nature, it's been a long while since club's have had reserve sides and certainly in the past few years at Southampton it has been rare to see out of form or injured first team squad members playing in the B team.
That is set to change this season due to two distinct changes to the rules, the first is to reduce the age group down from U23 to U21, but in doing so there is an increase in the number of overage players that can be included, now the rule states "Each team can field a goalkeeper over the age limit and up to five "over-age" outfield players in every match"
The limit was previously three overage out field players.
Saints have also changed their thinking with the B team a little and whereas in the past the B team rarely had a first teamer in it, now the club are looking to give their first team squad who have not played in the side for a period of time run outs in the B team.
The idea is not only to make us more competitive at this level, but to keep us the sharpness of the first team fringe players with competitive games.
That could manifest itself at Eastleigh this evening and with two first team friendlies in the space of four days we could see a first team player or two make an appearance at the Silverlake.
For those Saints fans going here are the full details for the game on Tuesday, July 26th, kicking off at 7:30pm.
