Traffic Chaos In Southampton Ahead Of Manchester United Game
Saturday, 27th Aug 2022 08:17

If it wasn't bad enough in Southampton City Centre with the visit of Manchester United it is more than doubled today with Southampton Pride meaning road closures and increased numbers on both road & rail.

Southampton Pride takes place today so that means Southampton City centre brought to a standstill and a lot of the events situated around Guildhall square, usually one of the central areas for both Saints fans and also visiting supporters.

This will mean extra traffic on the main arteries into the City for cars as well as car parks being a lot more busier, likewise train services will be busier.

There will be many road closures in the City centre mainly in the area between Queens Park near Dock gate 4 and up to the Bargate and through to the main focus of Pride on Guildhall Square

This is because of the main parade that will depart Queens Park at 11am and will be winding its way onto Briton Street turning right up into the High Street, it will continue through the Bargate It will then make it's way up Above Bar Street before splitting in two at Civic Centre Road.

The Parade will then enter Guildhall Square at approx 12pm via the Main Entrance on Above Bar Street and the Civic Centre Car Park entrance.

So just as the bulk of Saints supporters will be making their way from the town centre to St Mary's they may encounter the parade and have problems crossing roads whilst it passes by.

Be aware of the event happening and allow some extra time to walk to the ground if you usually come from the West of the city centre and will need to cross the High Street/Above Bar street between 11am & noon between the docks and Guildhall Square

It's also one of the last weekends before kids go back to school so there could be a lot of families shopping in town too. It already looks busy out there and it's only 10am..
