Saints Invite Fans In Itchen North To A Forum To Discuss Disorder Issues
Wednesday, 14th Dec 2022 13:23

Southampton FC have sent out an invite to supporters in the areas affected by recent closures to Block 1 in the Itchen North to meet Managing Director Toby Steele to discuss what will happen in that area going forward.

Whilst it cannot be denied that Block 1 has been one of the most fervent areas in the ground in the past year or so and it's support has been good for the atmosphere in St Mary's, it also cannot be denied that the behaviour at times has over stepped the mark between what is acceptable and what is not.

That led to the closure of Block 1 after the club failed to stem the level of disorder to the satisfaction of the Stadium Licencing committee.

Now the club have invited supporters in that area to attend a small forum to discuss the situation.

I would see this as a genuine effort by the club to do things, firstly make supporters aware of how serious the situation had degenerated to, yes some would say it is good old fashioned banter and to a degree they have a point, but others would say it has now gone too far, in truth we rarely go to any other Premier League ground where there is a home section next to the away section that sees behaviour of the like that has happened in the Itchen North.

Secondly the club are trying to seek a reasonable solution that would see them being able to reopen Block 1 and more importantly keep it open going forward and not see it closed again, possibly on a permanent basis.

The forum is due to take place at St Mary's on 22nd December at 6pm and supporters who are in that area have been sent e mails asking them if they would like to attend.
