Saints Fixture List Confirmed For Life Back In The Championship
Thursday, 22nd Jun 2023 09:01

Southampton supporters will be able to start planning for next season now, with the fixtures released for the 2023/24 Championship campaign, find out here who we will be playing and when. Sadly the first game is on a Friday night.

There will be a few games Saints fans will be looking out for next season, for the travelling fans the trip to Rotherham will be a must, many will not have seen us play at Rotherham at all and this will also be our first ever trip to the New York Stadium, so it is going to be a sell out.

A trip down to Plymouth will also be on the agenda as will be the London trips to QPR & Millwall.

Other than that it is finding out who we will play over Christmas and New Year as well as the Easter period and of course the opening and closing fixtures of a season where hopefully we will fall back in love with being competitive and winning games again.

Sadly though despite there being potentially many more Saturday fixtures, there are a lot of midweek ones as well, Preston, Stoke, Coventry & Bristol City added to Sheffield Wednesday as evening games played away from home.

Blimey, away fans will be racking up the miles in the first few fixtures of the season. It’s not until November that there is an away fixture that is remotely close.

Without being too optimistic about promotion next season it's quite a relief not seeing the Manchester and London (etc.) super rich on the fixture list. This should be more of a level playing field where dubious funding doesn't guarantee success for the elite.

That's my view too Highfield.

The start looks quite tough. Those first eight games will find us out if we are not fully ready...

Just read this opinion of our new manager. Sounds familiar 'He can be very stubborn and his system of possession football only works if you have players who are comfortable on the ball in the penalty area. His defensive record at Swansea was poor, mainly a factor of putting ourselves under pressure in our own goalmouth. So, be warned !'
