Saints Linked With Albanian Striker
Sunday, 20th Aug 2023 21:17

Southampton are said to be chasing Grenada Striker Myrto Uzuni, but they have competition from Premier League Brentford as well as Leeds United in the chase for the 28 year old Albanian.

The latest player to be linked with a move to St Mary's is Myrto Uzuni according to sportwitness.co.uk who are reporting on stories appearing in Spain.

They say that a number of clubs including Brentford, leeds & Saints are chasing Uzuni who after a career in his home country of Albania, has arrived in Spain via Croatia and Hungary.

He signed for Grenada in January 2022 to hopefully fire them to safety in La Liga, they were ultimately relegated, but Uzuni stayed loyal and last season scored 23 goals with 5 assists in 38 games as Grenada won promotion back to La Liga.

He is mainly a left winger but can also operate as a striker and it would seem that if Nathan Tella does move to Germany, then they may well pursue the Albanian who has also won 31 caps for his country scoring 5 times.

The articles suggest that the fee Grenada would be looking for is £20 million or thereabouts, although Transfermarkt have it as nearer £7 million.

The report states that Galatasaray, Stade de Reims and an unnamed Saudi club have also registered interest in Uzuni. The player has a contract until 2026, which includes a €25m release clause.

It also claims that Grenada are not interested in selling, hence the release clause will need to be triggered should a buying club emerge.

Whilst there is always room for negotiation in a transfer deal, there is a big gap between what the player is worth and the release clause, so I don't see this one going ver y far.

This morning news seems like Tella wants to leave for the Bundesliga and Adams £15 million bid from Everton has been accepted. Salumena will probably also leave. I don't see us replacing these players with anyone close to their talent or standard. This Albanian fella is a risky buy also. Would love Broja on a loan deal tho.

SR need to start throwing some of the transfer profit about and aiming for that promotion money.

AgrellaSFC, Sports Republic aren’t going to be throwing transfer profit money around, simply because any they obtain will be used to pay off massive debts incurred in purchasing the club and money spent in their failed attempt to keep us in The Premiership.

It’s called business I’m afraid, any connection to football is merely coincidental.

He maybe sounds OK. Has got a similar record to Ché Adams and Adam Armstrong.
28 may sound old - to some - but he's been around and even if Albania aren't top class he's has played internationally, and we are hardly likely to give him a 4-5 year contract.
We aren't Prem. any longer and so don't need a lot of top class players at this level.

If he were to get into double figures he'd be worth the investment as we need several more strikers capable of getting goals. (Burnley and Middboro' both scored over 80 goals in their attempts to get promoted last season). One or two major injuries could be disasterous for us in a promotion bid.

If the money from player transfers is, in part, required to pay off existing debt then it would be foolish to spend millions on unknown quantities like Uzini. That said, if we are receiving the transfer money in staged payments, three to seven years maybe, then surely our debt must be similarly spread? There has to something rather worry about this scenario if the club paid up front for Onuachu, Sulemana and Alcaraz, amongst others. My understanding is that payments are generally linked to length of contract but I'm sure there are exceptions.
I'm also at a loss understanding why Adams would want to go to Everton unless that's part of the deal to get Mason Holgate to move south? In terms of Dyche's playing strategy I'd have thought Onuachu was a better fit for hoof ball.
Interesting days ahead but, if Holgate doesn't get signed then maybe Simeu or Bella- Kotchap can progress? Whilst losing Tella would be disappointing, and a significant loss to the squad, young Amo-Ameyaw looks to have a great future and Ballard will surely get to play more hours fairly soon. Is Broja still recovering from a bad knee injury, because I recall it was a significant recovery period?

He scored 23 goals in the Spanish second division. Played 15 matches in La Liga and scored once in 15 matches collecting 4 yellows and a Red card.

Don't want to disrespect their second league but I don't think it compares to the Championship

Highfield49, I agree with young Samuel Amo, looks like a class player. Broja did join Chelsea in their pre season American tour but maybe with Nkunku's injury he might be a good back up for them.
