Alcaraz Gets First Full Argentina Call Up as 13 Saints On International Duty
Tuesday, 10th Oct 2023 18:12

Charly Alcaraz form for Southampton has earned him his first ever full International squad call up to the Argentina squad, find out here who the other Saints player on International duty will be.

To start off with the great news for Charly Alcatraz, he will link up with his fellow countrymen and hope for his first full cap either against Paraguay on Friday 13th October or Peru on Wednesday the 18th, that will leave him arriving back in England with little time before the trip to Hull City on Saturday 21st.

There will be a few Saints in action for England, but none with the full squad, Taylor Harwood Bellis will be in the U21 squad for their Euros qualification fixtures against Serbia & Ukraine.

Sam Edozie will be in what is called England Men’s Elite League squad or as it used to be known the U20's.

Dom Ballard out on loan at Reading has been called up to the U19 squad whilst in the U18's Sam Amo-Ameyaw and Jayden Meghoma, both of whom have played in the first team this season will join up with that squad.

But the squad with the most Saints representation will be the Republic Of Ireland who have 3 of our men in their midst, Gavin Bazunu, Will Smallbone and Ryan Manning.

The latter might not be too popular with a sizeable minority of Saints supporters, but he is still in with Ireland boss Stephy Kenny.

Just to the North of the Irish border will be Shea Charles who is in the Northern Ireland squad.

Scotland have two Saints, Stuart Armstrong & Che Adams both in the squad, but Ryan Fraser hasn't done enough yet for a recall to the squad it seems.

Lastly is Joe Aribo who is in Nigeria's side for their game against Saudi Arabia which is a friendly fixture.

However loaned out striker Tall Paul Onauchu is not joining Joe in the squad.

Staplewood will not be empty though. Alex McCarthy, Joe Lumley, Kyle Walker-Peters, James Bree, Jan Bednarek, Mason Holgate, Juan Larios, Flynn Downes, Ryan Fraser, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Adam Armstrong, Sekou Mara, Kamaldeen Sulemana & Ross Stewart will all be turning up for the training sessions.

Jan Bednarek will be disappointed to miss out on playing for Poland, but it seems he is out of favour with the new Polish manager Michał Probierz who surprisingly singled him out as to why he was dropped saying :

"Every selector has the right to make their own choice on who they want. I spoke to Jan, I respect every player and it's not said that he's permanently written off the team.

"It's also not like how the media portrays him as being the team scapegoat. Today, I simply decided to focus on a group of people whom, I believe will win six points in the next two games.

"I can understand that not everyone will be happy with my opinion, but keep in mind that we are observing many other players and I won't be able to satisfy everyone with my choices. I only want to call-up those who are to lead us to victory."

So there you have it everyone who will be on International duty and those who won't be.

KWP is unlucky to be English as he'd be in most other squads.

As you mentioned his name twice, does that mean Sulemana will be doing double training ? To be fair, he probably needs it, in the hope that he may soon complete a full 90 minutes for us !!
