Southampton Complete Loan Signing Of Midfielder
Tuesday, 21st Jan 2025 20:23

As was reported on this site yesterday, Saints have agreed terms with Danish International Albert Grønbæk from Rennes and they have now confirmed that pen has been put to paper subject to International clearance.

Southampton FC's official website have confirmed that Albert Grønbæk has been signed on loan from Rennes on a loan deal till the end of the season.

The Dane can play as a central midfielder, attacking midfielder & as a left winger, with 191 games to his name and 40 goals, he is a player who can combine youth and experience.

On joining Southampton, he had this to say:

“I’m just so excited. It’s a big club and I think the playing style is suiting me very well, so I’m just very pleased to be here.

“The facilities are very good and the stadium looks incredible. It’s even bigger and better when you come in person, so I’m just so excited to play there. I’m proud to be here.”

In truth this was always going to be a difficult transfer window for Saints, they have fallen to far behind 17th place and safety to risk spending big this window to avoid going down, but they do need additions to the squad and a loan signing is an ideal way to bring in new blood, without having to make a big financial commitment.

In the summer they can analyse just where they need to strengthen for 2025/26 season.

Just what we need another midfielder, hope he works out well but when will those incompetents realise that we need a good striker.

Yes makes some sort of sense but with Dibling out and Armstrong out of his depth one can only hope that behind the scenes an experienced striker is well into negotiations with the Club.
Sulemana has improved given the opportunity at last, but 'Big' Paul is most probably not the answer. Still SR know best!

i dont know if we will ever see another striker at Saints again the likes of lambert, Pelle, Austin, Ings, le tiss, Beattie, Davies , Dowie, Shearer, Rideout, Channon , Boyer, Mcdougall all during my lifetime . SFC who ever is in control nowadays just doesnt seem to have a clue .
