Goalkeeper Loan Move To Southampton Stalls
Saturday, 3rd Jan 2026 09:46

According to sources in Germany, the loan move of goalkeeper Daniel Peretz from parent club Bayern Munich to Saints, has been halted due to issues !

getfootballnewsgermany.com are one of the media outlets reporting that Danie Peretz will not be moving to Southampton, at least not just yet.

This is nothing to do with Southampton, but because of issues between parent club Bayern Munich & the club he is on loan with SV Hamburg.

Peretz was being recalled early from a season long loan due to the fact that he had not made a single appearance in the Bundesliga for Hamburg, his total game time being just 2 games in the German Cup.

His time at Bayern was not much better and in his 2 seasons in Bavaria he only managed 4 League appearances, one of those as a substitute, plus 3 appearances in cup competitions, meaning since leaving Maccabi Tel Aviv in the summer of 2023, he had played in just 9 competitive club games for either Bayern Munich or Hamburg, hardly the CV that we want to hear.

Bayern Munich have recalled him from Hamburg, but the issue is Hamburg are not willing to agree to this until they have signed a replacement, although Peretz has been the regular back up keeper on the bench, they have no keepers with experience beyond this.

Peretz did not arrive for Hamburg's training session yesterday, but that was because of a cancelled flight according to HSV.

To complicate matters HSV's Chief Personnel Officer Stefan Kuntz has resigned for personal reasons, meaning Hamburg have no one to run transfer negotiations at the top.

Bayern Munich do not see Peretz as part of their plans going forward and are keen to get this loan move done and even keener to see it become permanent.

The news coming out of Germany is that this deal will probably happen, but it could be a matter of weeks rather than days.

This hardly sounds like Saints are to blame in any way. Clearly Hamburg are in transition, having lost key members of staff at senior level, and have put a stop on everything for the time being. I think I'd do the same if I took over in such a situation until it can be reviewed.

Clearly the loan deal was only awaiting contracts to be signed when he was recalled.
His playing experience, or lack of it doesn't mean he wouldn't be a good signing but it is just a hiccup at an awkward time. As soon as Hamburg find themselves a replacement the deal may be on again. I'm sure they would like the loan fee / eventual deal to go through.

Sadly too often, fans on this site (and others) are quick to criticise a potential signing just because THEY have never heard of him. Nothing could be worse than giving them daytime
and a chance to vent their anger at the lack of success they perceive in the club.

10 years ago (?) there was a huge outcry when Saints` signed a player from Germany, who (it has to be said), didn't set the World alight in his early games, and prompted one loud-mouthed critic to angrily compare him to Ali Dia. After a while the new signing settled in, and began scoring goals. HIs name ..Sadio Mane ..(wonder what happened to him?)

We need new goalkeeping talent, and IF.. this deal eventually happens, he may be the one we are really looking for. Time will tell.
