Southampton Have Injury Issues Ahead Of The Charlton Game
Saturday, 21st Feb 2026 10:34

Tonda Eckert has revealed that there will be a few missing from his squad to take on former St Mary's boss Nathan Jones Charlton Athletic this afternoon. Will this affect the balance of the team is the big question.

There could be more changes for the team this afternoon than Tonda Eckert envisaged, the main worry being that left back Welington is going to be out for at least a couple of weeks with a muscle injury.

However the manager has a ready made replacement in Ryan Manning, the former Swansea City defender hasn't always been a fan favourite, but this season has seen his stock rise and when he replaced Welington at Leicester City at the King Power in the 4-3 win, he played a major part in the comeback scoring the equaliser.

Jay Robinson has not been involved in recent weeks and he will again be unavailable due to an issue with his quad muscle.

However Jack Stephens should be fit to take his place in the team after getting the all clear on a scan after picking up a knock in the win at Leicester.

With 3 games coming up in the next 7 days, Tonda Eckert will have to manage the squad, especially Ross Stewart and Leo Scienza.

Stewart has of course suffered a torrid time with injuries in the last 3 years and it would be folly to start him in all 3 games and Scienza has been suffering with a groin issue, that has been well managed in recent weeks.
