Arsenal Have Injury Issues After the International Break
Monday, 30th Mar 2026 09:09

Fans of the Gunners are speculating that their team could be missing at least 11 players for the cup tie at Southampton on Saturday evening, good news for Saints supporters.

Arsenal fan website suburbangooners.com have posed the question "Will there be any fit Arsenal players left by the time we play Southampton?"

They point to the fact that Pierro Hincapie, who limped off for Ecuador against Morocco on 72 minutes was in a totally unnecessary situation, ie playing for his country for so long in a meaningless friendly.

The Gooners at least are getting nervy about the final run in to what they hope will be an historic treble, the Premier League, The Champions League & The FA Cup.

The good news for Saints supporters though is that Arsenal are likely to prioritise their season in exactly this order.

The list of those on the injury list for the Gunners apparently now stands at 11 and there are still some players yet to return from International duty.

The injury list at the moment is as follows.

Timber
Saliba
Gabriel
Hincapie
Zubimendi
Rice
Eze
Odegaard
Saka
Madueke
Trossard

suburbangooners.com feel that their club is getting some bad press on the withdrawals, that their rivals are accusing them of recalling players from international duty when they are not really injured.

But they back their club on this and point to the fact that all of these would have had to have proved to their country that they were actually injured.

What this does show though is that Mikel Arteta is having to cosset his squad and use it sparingly, this means that the Premier League & the Champions League will be prioritised and the Gunners face Porto in the quarter finals of that competition just 3 days after they meet us at St Mary's.

The Gunners are getting jumpy and so I would be surprised to see anything like a full strength line up at St Mary's, however as much as the first reaction would be one of joy, it should be remembered that Arsenal have a very strong squad and their youngsters are no slouches.

But we will take all the advantages we can get and if the bulk of those 11 players named are not in the starting line up on Saturday I will be happy.

It seems a bit of a coincidence that all Arsenal players have now been withdrawn from international duty. I guess we won't find out how real those injuries are until the Arsenal team is announced on Saturday.

We need to be prioritising the league too, personally whilst I'd still be putting out an 11 made up of first team players, I'd still be resting one or two, those who played internationally for starters should be rested, Shea Charles, Azaz, and Manning all included. I'd be tempted to rest Downes too, just to avoid him picking up an injury or risking a Red and a suspension for the league matches. I'd play "Peretz, Bree, Harwood-Bellis, Wood, Welington, Bragg, Jander, Fellows, Matsuki, Archer, Larin in a 4,2,3,1

re: headline. Not surprising Nick. Arsenal have played a lot more games this season and a player's fitness doesn't always hold out until the last match.
Arsenal are still chasing 3 trophies and we aren't the strongest opposition they will meet before the end of May, so we can't expect them to field their strongest side.

We all know what happens when sides claim to have injury issues just before they are due to play us?

I think Arsenal will want to win this and win it well. They were heavily criticised for their recent Wembley performance. If they perform badly against us it will send some jitters amongst the Arsenal faithful and the media.
