Saints Defender Hobbles Out Of Open Training Session After Collision
Monday, 30th Mar 2026 20:45

Saints held an open training session at St Mary's on Monday afternoon, but there was one surprise the fans were not expecting after one of the Southampton players had to come off after being injured.

Southampton held what was supposed to be a low key showcase training session at St Mary's as a special event for the kids off school on their Easter holidays, but they got an Easter present they weren't expecting when Jack Stephens had to head back down the tunnel after colliding with fellow defender Nathan Wood.

the72.co.uk have reported on the incident.

It was not during a training game though, but in one of the final drills at the end of the session when Stephens & Woold crashed into each other.

The Saints captain then hobbled off the pitch.

Ironically if Stephens was to miss either the Arsenal game or the Wrexham clash three days after, it would be Nathan Wood who would be the likely replacement for Stephens, although this collision was a complete accident in a drill rather than an over zealous challenge in a tackle.

The after training, signing session was longer than the actual time on the pitch for the players and the squad, minus Captain Jack, walked the length of the stand to sign autographs and pose for selfies etc.

Given the team walked out at 11.05 for the start of training, the last man to walk back down the tunnel was Taylor Harwood-Bellis only a minute or two short of 1pm.
