This time last year Will Still was a highly rated up & coming young manager who was being linked with the Southampton job & would be appointed before the disastrous 2024/25 season was over, 4 months later his reputation was in tatters, but now it seems he is about to make a comeback.

Will Still has been out of work since being sacked after a home defeat to Preston on 1st November, ironically the reverse fixture on Saturday saw his successor Tonda Eckert secure 4th spot in the Championship.

Since his axing by Johannes Spors, he has been linked with several Championship clubs in England, but for one reason or another he was not appointed to any of them and has remained without a job for the last 6 months.

Now though according to footballleagueworld.co.uk he is being lined up to a return to the dug out.

They report that French publication, L'Équipe are reporting that the former Southampton boss is among the favourites to take over at FC Lorient ahead of the upcoming 2026/27 season:

"It has been stated that the appointment of Still is the club's preferred choice at present, whilst also being linked with Sint-Truiden boss, Wouter Vrancken."

His reputation in England might not be very high, but in France where he had successful spells with both Lens & Reims, it seems he is in demand.

Personally I wish Will Still well, he was the wrong man at the wrong time at St Mary's, it needed a strong personality in charge at the club and he was not that man, it was not just about experience, it was about belief in his own ability and you felt that he didn't quite have that yet.
