Ross Stewart Picked For Scotland World Cup Squad
Tuesday, 19th May 2026 12:44

Good news for Southampton striker Ross Stewart, his superb form for Saints has earned him a call up for the Scotland squad for the upcoming World Cup.

BBC Sport has reported that Saints striker Ross Stewart will be going to the USA/Mexico/Canada for the upcoming World cup, ending four years in the wilderness since the last of his two caps in 2022.

Stewart suffered a lot of injury injuries at St Mary's since joining Southampton from Sunderland with an existing injury.

His first two seasons were not very productive, however this season he has blossomed and although he has alternated for most of the season with other strikers, most recently Cyle Larin, he has become a valuable member of the Saints squad with 8 goals in 25 Championship appearances, plus the equaliser against Middlesbrough in the play off semi final 2nd leg and 2 goals in the FA Cup.

The Scotland side will face Curacao in a Hampden Park friendly on 30 May then play their final warm-up game against Bolivia in New Jersey on 6 June.

They will face Haiti (14 June), Morocco (19 June) and Brazil (24 June) in Group C.

The first two group games will take place in Massachusetts, with the final fixture in Miami.

Great reward for Ross Stewart (who is Steward?). Just hope his body can cope with the match intensity of the World Cup and it doesn’t break him. Given McBurnie was not included I also hope he doesn’t use the play off final to show that this was a mistake.

Well done Ross, hard work is paying off.
Might he meet up with Cyle at the World Cup?
Two inform strikers who most Saints fans would not swap for anyone.
Their mutual humility, reliability and approach and devotion to the task has been exemplary in the face of such a substantial rival for their shirt.

Well done Ross. Having been without his services for almost 2 years with a variety of injury problems, at last we are seeing the player we had hoped to get in the first place.
The tactic of the ongoing substitutions between him and Larin has clearly benefitted both players, and their current good form has come precisely at the right time.

Wonderful and so deserving you’ve had to dig deep
Both mentally and physically to come through
All the very Best Ross happy days
