Southampton In Advanced Talks To Sign Goalkeeper On A Permanent Deal
Thursday, 4th Jun 2026 08:01

Reports from sources on X are claiming that Saints are now pushing forward with transfer plans for next season and they are already well advanced with one signing that will excite most Southampton fans.

There will undoubtably be departures from the squad this summer, however most of the would probably have happened even if we had gone up.

The truth is that players are professionals and they go to the club that can offer the best deal, be that financial or in terms of level.

That works both ways and although the players will not be happy with the way that the season was ended not on the field, but by a so called independent tribunal, they will not cut their noses off to spite their faces.

You will not find anyone in the squad dropping £5k a week to join Lincoln City to name an example, just on principle, loyalty is earned from players via their bank accounts these days I’m sad to say.

But one good bit of news is that we are apparently in advanced talks to sign Daniel Peretz on a permananet deal.

The Israeli is said to be keen to join Southampton and get the deal done quickly according to various sources,

However it has to be noted that the Southampton FC PR machine, virtually non existent in the past couple of years, has suddenly sprung into life with a number of positive leaks to the media, the nature and the number of how these are coming out is suggesting that the club are using an outside PR company for this.

It is about getting the feel good factor back into the fan base and moving on from the events of May, which could well yet see legal action.

So getting a popular member of last season’s squad back to St Mary’s on a permanent basis will go a long way to achieving this.

There is a long way to go, but it is a start.

Presumably this move will be funded by the departure of Ramsdale. No way Peretz will be coming back to play second fiddle.

We've got to find someone to take Ramsdake first.
That might not be so straightforward considering his wages.
Newcastle don't want him, it would have to be a Premier Club to take him or we could be stuck with him.

I think Peretz is a better goalkeeper in the making than Ramsdale and more of an on-pitch leader. He's the best since Niemi and the loudest since Flowers. It would be worth accepting a slightly smaller fee than he's worth to get Ramsdale of the books.

Ramsdale will get a mid table prem side when on of them loses their keeper to a top 6 team or a foreign club
Getting Peretz early will encourage fans to buy season tickets and at least show some positivity Even if we get Larin we would still need another striker but more worrying is those linked with an exit
Anyone who leaves will still be associated with what has happened Imagine Leo flying down the wing at Leeds and scoring into the top corner.Opposition fans will still subject him to the "cheat chants"
If THB were to stay for 2 more years, one in the Championship, and one keeping us in the EPL he would be able to pick his club Any of the top six.He could go now to Hull or Coventry and be relegated again

I believe Alex McCarthy's contract expires at the end of this month and rumour suggests that he is taking home up to £50k a week.

Ramsdale has, presumably, indicated that he is not interested in playing on a regular basis but is happy to sit on the bench of a bigger club. I've no real issue with that, provided his agent quickly finds a suitable nesting site, but I guess he'll pick up his loyalty bonus in a few weeks time.

Permanently signing Peretz would certainly be a statement of intent to win the Championship next season. If the contract comes to fruition let's also hope that there are very few players eager to jump ship during a difficult time for the club. Stability and continuity are required at present.

Sorry Highfield49, but, wishful thinking....of THB, Scienza, Jander and Shea, at least 3 will go.....I would honestly love to be wrong on that....

Wishful thinking, to some extent, onetowatch and I'd be surprised if we retained the entire squad. Jander is my choice for player of the season and will certainly be tough to keep at the club.
Whilst losing any of the other players you mention would weaken the squad at least there are current alternatives to fill the space.
Looking at the, very, mixed fortunes of former players who have jumped ship in recent times maybe it is all about the money rather than the game. On the bright side, Middlesbrough will probably lose their star player for about £15m, maybe he'll be able to sit on the bench with Dibbling next year.

Fair comment Highfield49. As we're all aware, players that leave now is simply the exact same result as if Spygate never happened and we'd lost to Hull in the play off...

Scienza,Jander,Azaz and Fellows are only one year into 3 4 or 5 year contracts Therefore no need to cash in THB still has 2 years on his contract Shea Charles only has 1 year left so could possibly go
If Spors can find players of a similar quality to last years buys then we should be able to put out a similar standard team

Peretz would be a great signing. He was one of the players who I thought most likely to go.
