The last few weeks seem to have had Saints supporters in a state of flux, they haven’t known in what direction the club have been heading and it felt like we were spinning out of control but on Friday the club took back the power.

After the trials and tribulations of the last few weeks it needed something to draw a line in the sand, something to make a statement that the club was in control of itself going forward and that after weeks of the media making wild accusations and indeed some of our own fans going off on one, we needed to put a stop to the runaway train, put the brakes on and say “Today is a new beginning”

That something was the announcement that our two loan signings inJanuary, Daniel Peretz & Cyle Larin would be joining the club on permanent deals.

That showed those that contrary to the claims of some that most of the squad would leave and no one would want to join us, that life at Southampton FC was going to continue and more importantly continue to move forward.

Of course there will be departures in the summer, even if we had gone up some of them might have still gone, but the fees received for them will go towards their replacements and hopefully we can repeat the successes of last seasons transfer window.

Yesterday felt like a landmark moment, that the club had a future and that those in charge know what they are doing.

Of course mistakes have been made, Dragan Solak has admitted that in his recent interviews, the fact that he was actually doing so showed that the club have realised that their PR machine has been woefully lacking in recent years and it has now gone into overdrive.

This perhaps suggests that we have hired in outside PR companies and that they now realise the power of the media, not just in tough situations but going forward in rebuilding relationships with the supporter base.

So for the second time in 2026 Daniel Peretz & Cyle Larin have been a catalyst, back in January they brought the fire back to a struggling team and now they bring the fire back into the supporters as we now have to move forward.

The key now is the supporters to get behind the club at all levels, we cannot keep harping on about past mistakes, the past is done whether it was last season or the one before it, we have to keep moving forward.

Back in 2009 when the club dropped into League One is now looked on as a halcyon period under new owner Markus Liebherr, but the reality is that the fans did not flock back to the club, at least not in the League where the average attendance was around 21,000.

We took more than double that to Wembley and it built from there, the hard core support carried the club forward until the ground was finally full again on a regular basis when we got back to the Premier League.

Those that stuck with it during those dark days felt a sense of pride that they did and the future moments of joy felt that much better for doing so.

But now we need the great support of last season to stick with us, big crowds at St Mary’s and big crowds on the road, if we consider ourselves a big club then we have to act the part from top to bottom.

Yesterday was the first time I felt proud to be a Southampton supporter for a month, we have paid our price, now lets go out and show we have pride, we have dignity and make people look at Southampton FC and say I wish my clubs supporters were that good.
