Football Supporters Europe (FSE) have called on the EU to introduce a ban on dynamic pricing at football – and they are backed by the multinational consumer rights group Euroconsumers.

Dynamic pricing in general has yet to hit Europe and the UK, in simple terms it is a practice where a club would set a retail price for a ticket and then either up that price or for that matter decrease it depending on demand.

This has been usual in sport in the USA for a number of years and dynamic pricing has been in the media spotlight thanks to FIFA’s ludicrous pricing structure at the World Cup and it’s not just a football problem but something which exists across live entertainment.

Now the The Football Supporters Association (FSA) have reported that Football Supporters Europe (FSE) are trying to do something about it and preventing this being common practice in Europe.

They say there is a window of opportunity to ban the practice in EU countries as the European Commission’s Digital Fairness Act is expected to be reviewed in July.

In their statement the FSE call on legislators "to introduce a ban on dynamic pricing and ensure that ticket prices are clear, predictable and fair.”

They go on to say:

“There is only one organiser, one event, one date and often one dominant ticketing platform. Consumers have no meaningful alternative when prices suddenly increase,”

“As a result, fans are effectively penalised for their passion. The ticket remains the same, the seat remains the same, but the price can soar within minutes. This reduces access to culture and sport, excludes many fans and undermines trust in the market.”

While FIFA have shamefully introduced dynamic pricing at the World Cup this year, it is good to see that UEFA have said they will not use dynamic pricing at Euro 2028 and that 40% of tickets will be in the more affordable “Fan First” category.
