Saints Reveal New 3rd Team Shirt With Historic City Crest

The slogan for the new 3rd team shirt is "Southampton Made" and although it has a real retro look and wasn't based on a shirt worn in our distant history, I think it will be very popular with Saints supporters.

Inspired by the Bargate is the claim made by Southampton FC on their unveiling of their new third choice kit.

It is predominately ivory with red detailing and features a subtle printed pattern through the body. It continues the club's season-long Southampton Made campaign, celebrating the places, people and stories that have shaped Southampton for generations.

"Drawing inspiration from the Bargate, a symbol of the city's history and resilience, the design pays tribute to Southampton's heritage while offering a fresh look for the season ahead.

"As part of this tribute, the traditional club crest has been replaced with the city's shield, proudly featured on both the shirt and shorts, further strengthening the connection between the club and its home."

I don't know about all of this, but I do know that it looks very nice and that comes from someone that is usually very critical of our shirts over the past 50 years.

Rather than our usual club crest of the past 52 years it features the plain but effective City shield badge, popular on other merchandise, but never actually used on a Southampton official shirt before.

The kit will make it's debut in the upcoming fixtures in Germany at Eintracht Braunschweig & SC Preußen Münster.

It can be ordered now both online at Southampton FC and in store in men's, women's and junior sizes, with shorts available in ivory or red.

Adult third shirts are priced at £65, with £25 shorts and £12 socks, with juniors at £50, with £20 shorts and £12 socks, while infant kits are £40.

The change was unpopular at the time, as changes to traditional badges usually are, but fans weren't allowed to vote.

redwight added 14:37 - Jul 23 Whilst it was never on the shirt, this the old badge, is so much classier than the one we have now which has always looked as though it was designed by a classroom of under 10's. This is a really good looking shirt.

dirk_doone added 14:51 - Jul 23 It was on the shirt in the early years, although it was a bit random. If you look at old team photos from the end of the 19th century, you'll see that some of the players wore it and some didn't. It probably depended on whether they had someone to sew it on for them.

ItchenNorth added 19:05 - Jul 23 Nice looking kit. My only complain is with a lot of kits these days, where sponsors logo is plastic. After several washes, the logos deteriorate. Some clubs print the sponsors logos into the material of the shirt, which looks far better and never falls off !

Monksway added 16:17 - Jul 24 At least this looks like a football shirt. I'm hoping the leaked swirling pink and blue nonsense isn't actually going to be the away kit. Only to be worn by the very young, on a beach with flip-flops!
