This one has been an open secret for the past few days, but now Saints have confirmed the first of what could be 3 new signings before the transfer window slams shut on Tuesday.

Southampton FC have announced that central defender Keven Schlotterbeck has joined the club from FC Augsburg on a three-year deal, subject to international clearance.

They go on to say that the 29-year-old arrives in England having made 152 Bundesliga appearances across spells with SC Freiburg, Union Berlin, VFL Bochum and Augsburg.

Schlotterbeck has made 48 appearances for the Bavarian outfit, including captaining the side on 16 occasions in 2025/26, also gaining experience at international level by representing Germany at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

Schlotterbeck himself had this to say:

“I’m glad, I’m happy. [I have] big ambitions. Go to the field, win games and go for it this year.

“I think my football vision is the same, so we get the chance to get it together and now I’m here, happy to be here, and attack this year in the Championship.”

Group Sporting Director Johannes Spors said:

“We had identified the need for a left-footed central defender and Keven provides this alongside a vast amount of experience.

“His physical and technical attributes are matched by his mentality, as someone who is a real leader."

That is good to hear, we have lacked a leader in the centre of defence for many years now and hopefully the German will prove to be an asset.

But he will not be the last signing of the week, I have been told that the deal to bring James Ward Prowse back to the club has been signed sealed and delivered and will be announced tomorrow.

However there could be a third signing in the pipeline with Henrik Falchener from Norwegian club Viking said have been the subject of a bid from Saints as reported on this site earlier in the day.
