For the first 25 minutes it looked like Saints might be going to struggle, then came Cyle Larin on to the scene and suddenly the game changed, our best performance so far, but still a way to go before we get it completely right.

There were no big shocks in the starting line up, Taylor Harwood-Bellis was nowhere to be seen and nor was Caspar Jander, supposedly on the verge of returning to the side 3 weeks ago.

But making his debut was Keven Schlotterbeck in place of Jack Stephens and on the bench James Ward Prowse.

Things started badly, Millwall on the back of their two wins that saw them arrive top of the table looked sprightly and they went ahead on 15 minutes, their goal having an element of luck as it went through the legs of both Ryan Manning & new boy Schlotterbeck and gave Daniel Peretz no chance.

Things were not looking good and there was an air of despondency in the home fans and many sat there in silence watching without a word of encouragement being offered.

However almost out of nowhere came the equaliser and Ryan Manning put in a superb freekick into the penalty area and despite being very much in the land of the giants, Cyle Larin rose and headed home on 25 minutes.

On 38 minutes the game turned around completely, when a mazy run from Leo Scienza ended with a neat ball rolled across to Finn Azaz who tapped it home from barely a yard out.

However if the Saints supporters thought they would get into the break still ahead they almost had to think again, one of Millwall's big tactics was when the goalkeeper caught the ball he would hoof it right down the centre to be chased, two Saints players crashed into each other and it left Tairyk Arconte with a free run, he was pushed wide but his cross saw Kyrell Lisbie with just about an open goal from 6 yards.

Saints fans put their hands in their heads but somehow he contrived to hit the post and so it was still 2-1 going in at half time, but God knows how.

The game was still on a knife edge as the teams came out from the break, but there was change, Flynn Downes was unable to continue after his clash of heads and on came James Ward Prowse for his second debut.

Ten minutes after the break came the moment the game was put to bed, Finn Azaz went on a little run and as he went into the box he was brought down and the referee pointed to the spot, being honest if that was given against us, I would have thought it a bit soft, but never look a gift horse in the mouth.

So who would take the penalty ? We now have two of the best dead ball hitters in the Championship in Ryan Manning & JWP, Manning took a penalty a week ago and scored and JWP used to take them, but it was neither, Leo Scienza took charge and blasted the ball home.

You sensed Millwall were a little deflated now and just 7 minutes later it was all over bar the shouting, again Finn Azaz was involved. he went on another little run, somewhat reminiscent of Matt Le Tissier at his best and played it into Cyle Larin who flicked the ball over a defenders head and as it dropped volleyed it home, again reminiscent of Le God at his best.

The Millwall fans knew it was now all over and a fair few of them headed towards the exits a steady stream that increased and I have to say I can't remember ever seeing such an empty away section with 75 minutes or so left.

Certainly by the 86th minute when Tom Fellows himself went on a run and finished it with a weak shot that just about crawled across the line as Divin Mabusa tried his best to get a toe to it, there were not many Millwall fans there to see it.

It was great to see Fellows finally score a goal and hopefully that will do him a world of good.

So all in all a tough game that was completed in style, but it was not a perfect victory as previously noted, there were still a few lapses where we could have paid a dear price.

The main talking points were firstly the debut of Keven Schlotterbeck, he looked strong and composed, able to get stuck in when needed and also able to play the ball, but perhaps more importantly he looked an organiser and a leader, it was a very satisfactory debut.

Some wondered why he was replaced by Jack Stephens on 87 minutes, I can think of only one reason, at 5-1 the game was won, Tonda Eckert took him off so he could get a deserved standing ovation on his debut.

James Ward Prowse also played a big part in this game, right from the off in the second half he showed the class that we knew he had, he took charge and organised, he gave us composure.

Yes he might have not given any killer passes or free kicks, but he killed the early second half threat off and made sure Saints stayed on top, a very pleasing debut.

The big question now though is who takes free kicks, Manning or JWP who has taken a few for the club in his first spell, the answer is we have a dual option now, a left footer and a right footer, goalkeepers will not know who is going to hit it.

I know it is an if and not a but, but if we didn't have the 4 point deduction, we would be 5th in the table, ironically jumping above Middlesbrough on goal difference, just a single point off top spot.

But it is what it is and this win took us out of the bottom places and into a plus points position in 18th, ahead of West Ham on goal difference who have drawn two and lost the other of their 3 opening games.

Yes we should perhaps have at least another point, but overall I think before the season started we would have been happy to take 6 points from the first 3 games, even better when you consider that in the corresponding fixtures last season we took just 2 points.

Man of the match had a couple of contenders, Cyle Larin of course for his two goals has to be considered, but for me it was Finn Azaz, he scored the first goal, was brought down for the penalty on the third and then for the fourth it was his mazy run and pass that sent up Larin.

But not just that, his overall play is superb, everything revolves around him when we go forward, sometimes it's a big contribution and sometimes just a subtle pass or interception, I praised him last year and he is now getting fit again and back to his best.

In just two days time we will know who has stayed ,who is gone and more importantly if anyone else has come in and finally be able to fine tune our squad for the next 5 months till the end of the January transfer window.

Saints looked good against Millwall who we should not forget where the League leaders on arriving at St Mary's but as Tonda Eckert has said there is still better to come.
