Legend steps out of fan row

Leeds legend Eddie Gray has distanced himself from a bitter row between rival supporters club factions.

The 59-year-old Scot, who made 577 starts for Leeds and managed the club twice has clearly been affected by the bitter row that exists between the Leeds United Supporters Club and the official Membership Club - according to Wednesday's Yorkshire Evening Post.

He was appointed as President of the LUSC following the death of Mrs Elsie Revie, the wife of legendary manager and Gray's mentor Don Revie.

Eddie told the YEP that he was sick of the infighting that exists between LUSC and the club itself.

The row stems back to 2005 when Ken Bates took over the club. One of his first acts was to launch an official Leeds United Members Club. The Members Club took over the distribution of away tickets which enraged the long-established LUSC.

The LUSC also claim that the club drove them out of their regular meeting haunt at the ground. They have responded with the original idea of buying the Old Peacock pub opposite the ground.

However, a regular stream of squabbles have been exchanged between Bates and the LUSC. Eddie clearly has had enough.

The LUSC said they were "disappointed" at Eddie's resignation and announced they hoped to announce a replacement president soon. The YEP also claim that Eddie will not be switching sides, he apparently has turned down an offer to become a figurehead for the members club.
