John Ward has secured the services of Reading striker David Mooney on a five-month loan until 3rd January.

The 25-year-old Irishman joined the Royals from Cork City in 2008, having previously played for Shamrock Rovers and Longford Town in Ireland.

Since moving to the Madejski Stadium, Mooney has had three spells out on loan to Stockport County, Norwich City and Chalton Althletic - last season making 31 appearances (23 starts/8 subs) for the Addicks and scoring six goals.

Meanwhile, with goalkeeper Ben Williams due to miss the first two weeks of the season with an ankle injury, 20-year-old Carl Pentney has joined the U's on non-contract terms as cover. The former Leicester City trainee will be on the bench on Saturday with Mark Cousins deputising for Williams against Exeter City.
