First thread here.

Anyway, I'm a maths teacher down in Southampton. Question arose in my year 10 lesson where they had to find the area of triangle 'QPR' (not intentional). They start talking about "isn't that the football team?" And one kid said "yeah my uncle played for them...uncle Don." Keep football quiet at work but I immediately questioned Don who? And he pulls out his phone and shows me a selection of photos of him and Don Givens at family events, turns out it's his great nephew.

First time I've had anything like that in my career. The only connection I've had before is when I say next the Brett Angell's nephew in maths in junior school!

Excellent news cannot wait he is the reason I started following QPR back in the late 70s and love those old videos where he scored incredible goals .
He once scored 4 for ROI too if I am not mistaken .
How much money would he be earning today if he was playing (maybe skip that question )
Great story from the OP what a way to climb on board ,welcome

Don Givens, proper player from the old days.......worked like a trojan for his team. Scored some nice goals. An important player for us and someone who was important in our rise to being a top side. Good lad was Don.

Never confused with another player, that unusual running style was unmistakable.

Welcome on board, I’ll be the first to ask, what’s your favourite cheese?
Also, what school as I live in that part of the world?

I went to Thornden school in Chandlers Ford. Delivered Mick Channon's paper on my paper round.

Age thing I know: but are pups allowed to brandish smart phones willy nilly in the classroom or has Gillian Keegan granted a special dispensation for the purpose of clarifying claims of QPR lineage?

If so, then maybe she is doing a f.....g good job after all.

I’m more shocked that Samba Diakite is a maths teacher. I had him down for Woodwork.

Phones stay in bags off unless the teacher has "reasonable circumstance" for them to be used. Felt that applied here. Only other time it did was when a kid in my tutor group was mascot for Southampton at old Trafford last season

This account is more in homage to my first car who was given the same name. Current set of wheels is called Jermaine Darlington

Seems sensible.

I trust his marks have and will continue to take an uptick since his lineage was established?

Anyone else remember a game against Man City, I think, down at the Loft end where 1v1 he dribbled around Corrigan and then slipped over. The pitch was a right mess to be honest. The crowd literally laughed and as he got up gave a v sign to the baying throngs. He wasn’t as popular in his later years at Rangers. Rangers crowd could be cruel to players at times.

To quote CS&N Don givens is alright with me.

Bet you don’t say that about the kids though.

We liked a Don in those days, Rogers, Masson, Givens, Shanks (Alan McDONald?) Not a name you hear much of anymore.

In fact ‘Don’ Givens was actually Daniel. Do you think he chose Don just to fit in with the rest of the guys.

Similar but not similar.

Reason I started following QPR as a six year old, was my dinner lady at school, introduced me to her husband when i bumped into them at our local shops on the estate and her husband gave me a QPR sticker for my school satchel !!!

My dinnerladies name was Mrs Gillard !!!

Thus been cursed following this consistently frustrating outfit for life.

I played an away fixture for my school team in year 9 (about 16 years ago) and the PE teacher of the other school was Mr (Dave) Thomas
