Rotherham and Lincoln continue to monitor 7-goal forward as Blackburn Rovers and Blackpool also circle

Rotherham United and Lincoln City both sent scouts to watch Notts County forward Ruben Rodrigues in action for the National League side against Rochdale in the FA Cup on Tuesday night, according to Nottinghamshire Live.

Rodrigues has emerged on the radar of numerous clubs this season following his impressive form for Notts County in the National League this term.

The 25-year-old has managed to fire home seven goals in his 15 league appearances this term to date and that has played a major role in establishing them amongst the teams chasing automatic promotion to the Football League.

It has already been reported that both League One dup Rotherham and Lincoln are interested in making a potential move for Rodrigues ahead of the January transfer window. While there has also been reports that Championship Blackpool are also one of the other teams that are keeping a watchful eye over the forward’s development.

According to the latest report from Nottinghamshire Live, Blackburn Rovers are also potentially interested in Rodrigues and they have also been monitoring his performances for Notts County in the National League this season.

The report from Nottinghamshire Live added that Rotherham and Lincoln have once again sent scouts to watch the forward in action for Notts County. That came with the 25-year-old playing the full 90 minutes as the National League side were beaten 2-1 at home by Rochdale in the FA Cup first round.

The verdict

You would have to say that it is reaching the stage where Notts County are going to do very well to be able to keep hold of Rodrigues during the January transfer window considering that Rotherham and Lincoln are showing such an interest in his performances at the moment.
Rodrigues looks the sort of player that has the quality to progress beyond the National League and make an impact in the Football League.

Rotherham and Lincoln will both be searching for that extra bit of quality in the winter window to help them push for automatic promotion and the play-offs respectively and the 25-year-old might be someone that can come in and help them achieve that.

Blackpool and Blackburn are also very attractive potential destinations for Rodrigues given that they could offer him the chance to leap up to Championship level. However, whether he is ready to take that big of a step up remains to be seen and it will be interesting to see if either of the Lancashire clubs firm up their interest.

My take is that Brannigan's out of contract at Oxford in the summer and so we'll try to get him to sign a pre-contract agreement. Like Turton did with Huddersfield last year.

Oxford dismissed a reported £1m+ bid from us before the closure of the summer window so there's be no point in offering the kind of money that'd prise Brannagan away in January when we can simply hang on until summer and put the money previously set aside for his transfer fee into wages.

Simms on loan (although personally, I wouldn't take him what with being so disappointed about not getting him on a perm).

Simms:

Blackpool keen on striking transfer agreement for Everton player

Blackpool CEO Ben Mansford has indicated to the Blackpool Gazette that the club would be keen to bring Ellis Simms back to Bloomfield Road from Everton if the opportunity arose in January.

The 20-year-old striker previously joined the Seasiders on loan back in January of this year and helped to play a key role in helping the club to gain promotion back to the Sky Bet Championship by scoring 10 goals in 24 games before his return to Goodison Park.

Simms has since signed a new long term contract with the Toffees, however it appears that the possibility of the player returning to Blackpool hasn’t been entirely ruled out.

Speaking about the subject recently, Mansford was quick to provide his assessment of the situation involving Simms:

“Everton were really happy with how Ellis developed and how he enjoyed his time here, so if he becomes available, it’s right for us and it’s right for Ellis then we’ll keep you all posted.

“I’m sure he’s a player that will naturally be linked with us and you’re quite rightly going to ask about that because the fans want to know.

“At the moment, there’s nothing definitive to say and you always have to be respectful when you’re communicating with people like Everton that you maintain a really positive and professional relationship.”

Simms has now committed his future to Everton until the summer of 2024 and is sure to be allowed out on loan come the turn of the new year after failing to make any senior appearances this season under Rafa Benitez.

Meanwhile Blackpool remain confident of keeping hold of Ryan Wintle for the rest of the campaign, despite suggestions that he could be recalled by Cardiff City.

The Verdict

This would be a move that would certainly suit Simms and Blackpool on the whole as he is a player that is greatly in need of senior game time once again.

The Seasiders know exactly what they would be getting with the striker, whilst Simms himself will be familiar with what Neil Critchley wants from his players after their time together last term.

I think Simms can and will step up but let's not forget that he's has only ever had a handful of first team starts in his career and is untested at championship level.

Sources: Stoke City, Coventry City and Blackpool make approaches to sign Leeds starlet McKinstry

Championship trio Stoke City, Coventry City and Blackpool have made approaches to sign Leeds United rising star Stuart McKinstry, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The midfielder, 19, has made his Premier League debut this season after making rapid strides his 2019 arrival from Motherwell.

A Leeds source has told Football Insider that the club have fielded multiple enquiries from clubs keen to take McKinstry for the second half of the season.

Manager Marcelo Bielsa is now weighing up whether to loan the teenager out this month.

United are keen for McKinstry to get regular match experience at senior level after mainly playing Under-23s football since he joined the club.

But United have also been badly hit by injuries in recent months and are particularly short of midfield numbers.

Much could depend on whether Leeds are successful in signing midfielders in the newly-opened window.

Football Insider revealed on 18 December that the Premier League strugglers are in the market for two midfielders – a ‘number six’ anchorman who can provide cover and competition for the injured Kalvin Phillips and a ‘number eight’ who can create and operate higher up the pitch.

McKinstry is a versatile midfield operator who can play centrally as well as out wide.

He made his United debut in the EFL Cup win over Fulham last September and scored in the penalty shoot-out triumph.

Bielsa then handed the youngster his Premier League debut as a late substitute against Tottenham in November.

Blackpool interested in Bradford City midfielder Elliot Watt

Blackpool are interested in Bradford City midfielder Elliot Watt, according to the Daily Record (live transfer blog, 02.01.21, 16.39).

Blackpool are believed to be keeping tabs on the League Two man alongside Premier League strugglers Norwich City.

Watt, 21, has been a key player for Bradford over the past couple of seasons but they face a battle to keep hold of him.

He is out of contract at the end of the current campaign and is due to become a free agent next summer as things stand.

Bradford City story so far

The Bantams swooped to sign him in July 2020 on a two-year deal and he has been a hit since his switch to Valley Parade.

He has made 75 appearances for the Yorkshire club to date and has chipped in with four goals and four assists.

Career to date

Watt is from Preston and had spells in the academies at Liverpool, Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End before finally settling with Wolves.

He rose up through the ranks at Molinuex and was a regular at various youth levels for the Midlands club.

The Scotland youth international made his first and only first-team appearance in a League Cup clash against Sheffield Wednesday in August 2018.

He then had loan a loan spell away at Carlisle United to gain experience before Bradford came calling on a permanent basis.
What now?

Watt may well find himself higher up the football pyramid again soon with Blackpool and Norwich being credited with an interest in him.
