Formations - what should we play?

As you will probably know from my many ramblings on here - 442 is a no no in my eyes. They say a picture paints a thousand words:

GK

x x

Now one does not need a degree in geometry to see the vast pockets of space a 433/4132/4312/352 could exploit there. Man City sometimes play that way, but they have a vast budget and at the highest level they got taught a lesson (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3ryuRDiBpg).

So what are our options? We are well versed in 433 4141 (and many other variants) - perhaps today should have been an opportunity to try out 352. Yes, it is unfamiliar. Yes, it takes time to adapt but given the league season starts in a week then training should be focused towards how we are going to combat a different beast in Van Gaal's Utd. Taylor and Montero could easily play the wing back role and although Leon is missing, a midfield 3 could be drilled to hold their position and deny United space. The 3 centre backs also don't lack pace, so that could be an option.

One thing is for certain, a flat 442 will equal an absolute hammering next weekend.

No pressure Garry!

I had planned to write this in a different fashion, but Bob Bradley's departure from the club changes a section of this blog. The conclusion was as expected. A seemingly good man and a tryer who simply wasn't up to the job. In short he should never have been given the job.

Ben Davies - a mentality blueprint for academy youngsters
Although Ben is no longer a Swan (a fact I learned when I saw him in a Spurs jersey on the cross trainer in the gym in Mexico!), I thought it would be good to discuss how he has gone from relative obscurity as a youngster to a player at a top 6 club, and what the current crop of younger players can learn from him.
