Scotland: I'll Carry On Scoring

Jason Scotland believes he will take his goalscoring habit into the Championship with him

Last summer's capture has been a revelation in front of goal this season with 29 goals to his name and he looks certain to end the year as League One top scorer - not bad for an outlay of £25,000!

Although maybe not yet established as a fans favourite everywhere nobody can argue with the statistics of the man who was given the unenviable task of scoring the goals that would normally have been the forte of Lee Trundle.  And that is something he has achieved with some ease by surpassing any figure of goals that the £1m man managed in his four seasons at the club.

And as the Swans revel in their promotion to the Championship, Scotland knows that a move up to the next level will present it's own challenges but that is something he is ready to meet head on and a challenge that he believes he will pass.

Speaking in yesterday's Wales on Sunday, the striker said “It will be a big step up to the Championship, a challenge for me

“Players move from League One to the Championship and never make it. Hopefully that will not happen to me. I am sure Championship clubs will know about me because of how I have done this season.

“I’m not worried though. It is just football. You can’t go into it thinking you are not going to do well. You must relax and be happy about yourself.

“I am not setting myself a scoring target and then not make it. I have scored a lot this year and now in the Championship I have to believe I can continue with that.

“Whether I can get so many, who knows, but I will be feeling confident and will try to take things as they come.”

“I think very much it has to be down to the team I have playing behind me,” said Scotland.

“I have to give credit to them for the service. To be fair, since I have been over here I don’t think I have ever played in a side where I have had so much quality behind me.

“It is not just about me scoring the goals. I am not out there on my own. It is about the team.”

“I don’t think this season could have gone any better for me,” added Scotland.

“Promotion for the side, I have some goals and we have been playing well. I am just very happy. It is dream come true stuff really.

“I did not expect it when I came here. I was thinking about myself really. Getting into the squad, then into the side and getting a game.

“It was my first season in English football so I was not too sure what I expected.

“It feels it has been a long season, a hard season.

“We have had to go to places and battle, but at the end of the road things turned out right for us with promotion.”

Brave Swans in memorable game at Carrow Road
It was a pulsating game to watch and very much one of my favourite away games of the season. The Swans looked an entirely different side to that we saw at Middlesbrough when it is clear a catalyst for commitment was agreed behind the scenes at Swansea City. To a man every player grafted and wore the shirt with pride. To see the players really acknowledge the Swans support at Carrow Road this afternoon was emotional.

He was a revelation for the Swans for the few games he played this season, and now it emerges Sam Parker has ‘turned down’ a new Swansea City contract.
