Injury Problems Mount For Swansea

Home > Story Index >Injuries Mount Up At The Vetch

Already missing certain squad members, the Jacks have been dealt further blows today with injuries confirmed to Jason Smith, Andrew Mumford and Leigh De-Vulgt. De-Vulgt was stretchered off towards the end of Saturday's game with concussion and has been ruled out of both tomorrow's game at Stevenage and Saturday's trip to Carlisle.
Smith and Mumford though are out tomorrow but both hope to be fit in time for the clash of the bottom two on Saturday. Mumford suffered a dead leg during Saturday's win and Smith, recently returned from another long injury lay-off, has an injured joint in his shoulder. Physio Richie Evans is hopeful that both will make the long trip at the weekend.
With injury already ruling out Terry Evans, David Smith, Steve Watkin, Gareth Phillips and Neil Sharp, we are down to the bare bones on our squad and it is likely that Stuart Jones, will get his first team debut tomorrow night. The debate on the message board over the past day or so has been on whether we should play first team or reserves in this game but it appears that most of the fit professionals will be given the chance against the conference side.
Also ruled out for the game at the weekend is Michael Howard who serves a suspension for the accumulation of five yellow cards giving someone the chance to stake a claim for a permanent place in the left back berth. Paul Reid was another who has picked up his fifth yellow card on Saturday and he will be unavailable for the visit of Cambridge on November 2nd.
With injuries and suspensions mounting, Flynn will continue to look for possible additions to his squad and will be keeping his fingers crossed that we do not accumulate any more problems ahead of the crucial game on Saturday.
Stevenage are struggling in the conference at present in 18th place, having gained just 16 points from their 16 games to date and things do not look too good for a side that usually finds themselves in the higher reaches of the conference. However, just how much we are placing on this competition at the moment remains to be seen although my feelings are that we should be looking to build on Saturday's win and take this as an opportunity for 90 minutes to forget the league position.
I can see us winning but two sides struggling could produce an entertaining encounter and I take us to edge it by the odd goal in five. Ah well, we can but hope!!

Swansea City : What needs to happen now ?
The Indy’s lead football writer, Andrew Winfield goes in deep on this weeks issues and the real problems in store for the Swans.
Swansea City : The facts on players in and out and the strategy behind it
This week has seen some bad financial news for the Swans, and of course more questions than answers yet again. That aside there is some great news from the age grade side at U21 as once again we see a player knocking on the door of the first team squad.
Swansea City : Has Andrew Coleman been in the shower for three months with Bobby Ewing ?
The changing timeline of when Andrew Coleman became Chairmen of Swansea City caused a stir yesterday, our twitter account getting well over eleven thousand views and increasing, which sent website views here in to their many thousands as well.
Swans supporters consult Kieran Maguire and when did Andy start as Chairman ?
News of Swansea City’s financial position hit home yesterday as the club announced further losses. The profit and sustainability rules are forever hanging over a club, and in Swansea City’s case like everyone else it’s a rolling three year issue.
Gwyn’s Eye View : Swansea City v Millwall
Glyn is back with his favourite stats as we build up to the last game of the season. That comes in the form of Millwall who it seems are close to selling their requested 1,148 allocation, so its down to the Jack Army to do their bit this bank holiday weekend.
The fate today’s Swansea footballers would never have to endure
Swansea City bring this season to a close on Saturday with a home game against Millwall. However, what about those bygone days when footballers had no choice but to go down the pit after their career ended, or open a toy shop, pub or retrain ? That thought would petrify todays modern footballer.
Jamal Lowe : Still to be contacted regards his future at Swansea, Langstaff update
We have been told by numerous Swansea fans of a chance meeting in a service station between Jamal Lowe and those returning from Norwich yesterday. Nothing in that or indeed the conversation they had yesterday. Indeed there has to be some interpretation from what we know already on Jamal Lowe.
Brave Swans in memorable game at Carrow Road
It was a pulsating game to watch and very much one of my favourite away games of the season. The Swans looked an entirely different side to that we saw at Middlesbrough when it is clear a catalyst for commitment was agreed behind the scenes at Swansea City. To a man every player grafted and wore the shirt with pride. To see the players really acknowledge the Swans support at Carrow Road this afternoon was emotional.
