Port Talbot Game

Swans Return To Action In Port Talbot

Swans Return To Action

Brian Flynn has promised to field a full strength side against their near neighbours and a decent Swans following is expected to see the Swans parade their summer signings. With Lee Trundle playing his first game in a Swansea shirt and the likes of Roberto Martinez and Leon Britton returning, it promises to be an interesting evening.

This is the fixture that was arranged by the club to replace the Bristol City friendly which was cancelled when the Swans drew the Robins in the Carling Cup. Although the standard of the opposition may not be as high, it should still be an interesting evening and the taste of things to come in three weeks when the Swans face Bury.

Admission to the game is priced at £4 for adults and £2 for concessions and a special programme is being produced for the game at the cost of just £1.

I can safely say that in recent years pre-season has not necessarily grabbed me but with the spate of signings this summer, and quality ones at that, I am looking forward to this game and seeing how the side is shaping up ahead of the new season. It will also be my only chance to see the team in action prior to August 9 and, despite it only being Port Talbot, I cannot wait.

Port Talbot are hoping that there will be great interest in this friendly and are confident that after the Swans' escape last season there will be and can anyone remember a game where there was no major pressure when you are watching it?

I personally think that Flynn will give us a decent indication tomorrow night of our starting XI for the new season and, as becomes traditional with these games, we will see several changes in personnel and positioning during the course of the match.

If you are unable to get to Victoria Road tomorrow night then just tune back to JackArmy.net later in the evening and we will bring you thoughts, observations and pictures of the Swans in action for the first time since the close season ended.

Gwyn’s Eye View : Swansea City v Millwall
Glyn is back with his favourite stats as we build up to the last game of the season. That comes in the form of Millwall who it seems are close to selling their requested 1,148 allocation, so its down to the Jack Army to do their bit this bank holiday weekend.
The fate today’s Swansea footballers would never have to endure
Swansea City bring this season to a close on Saturday with a home game against Millwall. However, what about those bygone days when footballers had no choice but to go down the pit after their career ended, or open a toy shop, pub or retrain ? That thought would petrify todays modern footballer.
Jamal Lowe : Still to be contacted regards his future at Swansea, Langstaff update
We have been told by numerous Swansea fans of a chance meeting in a service station between Jamal Lowe and those returning from Norwich yesterday. Nothing in that or indeed the conversation they had yesterday. Indeed there has to be some interpretation from what we know already on Jamal Lowe.
Brave Swans in memorable game at Carrow Road
It was a pulsating game to watch and very much one of my favourite away games of the season. The Swans looked an entirely different side to that we saw at Middlesbrough when it is clear a catalyst for commitment was agreed behind the scenes at Swansea City. To a man every player grafted and wore the shirt with pride. To see the players really acknowledge the Swans support at Carrow Road this afternoon was emotional.

Liam Cullen has had his request for a new contract dismissed by Swansea City after discussions broke down last week. The lowest paid ‘senior’ player at the club ( he is twenty five) asked for a better contract increasing his £3,500 a week to around £7,000 a week over three years.
