Saints V Sheff Weds The Preview

Saints head into the first of six December games that could make or break the season.

It doesnt take a genius to work out that if Saints are to push themselves out of the relegation dogfight they need to start winning home games and a win against Wednesday would also start to push them away from the relegation zone.

As ever the season has to be defined by bursts of six games, if Saints come through December with six points there heads will still be above water, however they have the chance to really exceed that and kick on into mid table, out of the three home games, this Saturdayand Nottingham Forest are winnable and Reading is going to be tough, so its important to get a win against the Yorkshire side to ensure that we are off to a good start.

Certainly there is a much more confident look to the side with better shape and this has seen a three game unbeaten run emerge alongside with a steely determination in defence.

Sheffield Wednesday have dont travel well, winning two, drawing two and losing six of their trips on the road so far, conceding 25 goals, by far the highest in the division and scoring only 9, there heady heights in the Championship based on a home record that has een them win 6 and lose only 2.

In truth there arent many sides Saints could wish to face at home than the Owls, one of course though is Nottingham Forest who are coming up and another would be Watford and we all know what happened there.

But I can see Saints getting all three points and i can see them scoring a few as well, perhaps 3, whatever your views on this season Saints have created a lot of chances in games, the problem has been converting them and when they start doing that then they could push up the table.

I dont expect much change in the side for the third game running, although I would think that Alex pearce will retain his place in the back four, with the line up being similar to that that started the second half at Charlton, the only real decision in my view would be whether to play Robertson or BWP wide left, personally I would go for Robertson although in truth neither had a great game at the Valley.

December is as i say going to be crucial for Saints, however by beating Sheffield Wednesdayit would give us a big springboard to work on and a boost before the visit to Selhurst Park.
