Scotland Gives Up On Charlton Start

Jason Scotland has ruled himself out of a starting berth at Charlton stating he will not be fit

Scotland - the scorer for the Swans on opening day last season and the winner of the League One golden boot has had a late pre-season with his first start being on Tuesday against Den Haag.

And whilst Bussy, Brandy and Pintado have been amongst the goals there has been nothing from the boot of Scotland as he bids to get his way back to full fitness following his summer operation.

There were signs on Tuesday that he is getting close and on first gloance his mobility did appear to be improved but clearly not enough for him to want to risk himself for Saturday and a start in the Swans first Championship fixture

Scotland told today's Western Mail “I don’t think it would be right for me to go in from the start on Saturday because I don’t have as much match fitness and sharpness as I would wan

“But, while I wouldn’t be completely ready to go in, I still think I can do a job from the bench.

“Obviously I want to play, but it would be difficult for me and I’ve still got a little way to go.

“I started pre-season late and I’m not quite ready.

“I’m hoping I can be involved, but obviously it’s the manager’s decision. I will be pushing and knocking on the door though.

“I showed a few nice touches against Den Haag, but I want to be sharper.

“We are going up into a big division and I want to be at my best. It’s such a challenge that I don’t want to go in at just 60 per cent.

“I want to be at 100 per cent so I can perform to the best of my ability and bang those goals in.

“Everything is in working order and it has been good to get some minutes under my belt in the last couple of games.

“Hopefully, soon I can start expressing myself properly again.”

He added: “The manager has told me that he doesn’t want to rush me back in case I get injured again.

“And, if I felt anything, I would pull out and let them know straight away.

“I don’t want to come back too early, hamper my recovery and then miss two or three months of the season. I just need to make sure the timing is right so I can come back and give 100 per cent.”

Swans scrap it out to beat the Baggies
There were some worried looks when Swansea head coach, Vitor Matos announced his starting eleven against West Bromwich Albion, not least the fact he had no striker in the team. It turned out to be a masterstroke despite a fifteen minute period in the second half, and some uneasy moments at the end of this Championship fixture.
