Gower: I Had Clearance To Come On

Swans winger Mark Gower insists that he should not have been booked during Saturday's game

Gower was yellow carded six minutes into the second half of the 1-1 draw with Burnley at the Liberty Stadium after coming on as a half time susbstitute for Shaun MacDonald.

The fourth official had told the referee that Gower did not have his permission to replace MacDonald and therefore under the rules he should be carded accordingly.

But the former Southend man insists that he was given clearance to come on at half time and told the Evening Post ''When you make a sub at half-time you have to wait at the side of the pitch

''I was a bit late coming out and the ref looked like he was ready to start, so I asked the fourth official if it was all right for me to go on, so I did.

''Colin Pascoe came out for the second half and gave the substitution card to the fourth official after the game had restarted.

''I think the fourth official realised he had made a bit of a rick and told the ref and he booked me.

''He was made aware that I was coming on but he pushed the blame on to me and I've been booked for it.

''It's a bit of a joke after the game but it would only have taken another foul and I would have been sent off, and it wouldn't have been a laughing matter then.

''The ref told me he had no option but to book me — I can't remember a more bizarre booking in my career.

''But as far as I'm concerned I've not done anything wrong.''

Gower though bounced back from the disappointment to provide the killer pass which allowed Angel Rangel to set up Ferrie Bodde for the Swans late equaliser, something that delighted Gower who has spoken of his sadness at his lack of goals to date ''The defender tried to intercept the ball to me and fortunately it cleared him and I cut inside because the sun was in my face. I saw Angel and thought I'd give it a go. Angel took it well and his cross was perfect for Ferrie

''Ferrie hits four or five of those passes every game so it was nice for me to do it and play a part in the goal.''

Brave Swans in memorable game at Carrow Road
It was a pulsating game to watch and very much one of my favourite away games of the season. The Swans looked an entirely different side to that we saw at Middlesbrough when it is clear a catalyst for commitment was agreed behind the scenes at Swansea City. To a man every player grafted and wore the shirt with pride. To see the players really acknowledge the Swans support at Carrow Road this afternoon was emotional.
