Back To The Real Stuff - Ipswich Preview

Is it wrong of me to say that i am glad that the international break is over and here's to plenty of time before the next one.

I really can't get excited any more about international football.    Club football means so much to me but internationally I cannot get the same passion.  I want Wales to win but I don't worry when they lose.   A newspaper carries a story on the Swans and I want to read it, I don't think I read a single report on the Wales game on Wednesday night and I didn't watch it for that matter either (nor the England game before anyone asks!)

So that is why I am glad that tomorrow we get back to real football and the continuation of Championship life at Ipswich.   Not an easy return to action granted but three weeks ago people were saying that we would do well to get a point out of games with Preston and Wolves  - both of whom have won at Ipswich this season.

And with two weeks freshness behind most of the squad and the return of Ferrie Bodde to boot the Swans have every reason to head to Portman Road on a positive note as they look to secure a third successive Championship win - a win that is likely to lift them into the play off places come the end of the football weekend.

And with two home games to follow against QPR and Southampton next week who is to say that by this time next week the Swans couldn't be really at the very high end of the table as the season approaches it's one third point.

The return of Bodde is likely to give Roberto his headache as to who does he leave out to accomodate the Dutchman with many predicting that Tom Butler may be the unlucky man to accomodate Jordi Gomez in the side.   That would leave the Swans playing Gomez wide right and Gower on the opposite side and reunite the midfield trio of numbers 6, 7 and 8.

There is also a chance that Jason Scotland may drop to the bench having just returned from international duty today - Gorka Pintado stands by for a start should that be the case.

Ipswich defenders Alex Bruce (groin) and Gareth McAuley (hamstring) will have late fitness tests.

Ben Thatcher (thigh) is still out but Pim Balkestein returned from his groin problem for the reserves in midweek and could come into the picture.

In terms of betting value for this game, Gomez can again be backed at 25/1 for first goal whilst the returning Ferrie Bodde is 20/1 for the same feat - each way money appears to be good value for those two and has paid attractive dividends so far this season.

Score wise it is difficult to predict a Swans win on this one so will go for a 1-0 defeat but would most definitely take a point if it was on offer.  So after all of that expect the Swans to win.  By four!

Who are we?

The fate today’s Swansea footballers would never have to endure
Swansea City bring this season to a close on Saturday with a home game against Millwall. However, what about those bygone days when footballers had no choice but to go down the pit after their career ended, or open a toy shop, pub or retrain ? That thought would petrify todays modern footballer.
Jamal Lowe : Still to be contacted regards his future at Swansea, Langstaff update
We have been told by numerous Swansea fans of a chance meeting in a service station between Jamal Lowe and those returning from Norwich yesterday. Nothing in that or indeed the conversation they had yesterday. Indeed there has to be some interpretation from what we know already on Jamal Lowe.
Brave Swans in memorable game at Carrow Road
It was a pulsating game to watch and very much one of my favourite away games of the season. The Swans looked an entirely different side to that we saw at Middlesbrough when it is clear a catalyst for commitment was agreed behind the scenes at Swansea City. To a man every player grafted and wore the shirt with pride. To see the players really acknowledge the Swans support at Carrow Road this afternoon was emotional.

Sam Parker hasn’t turned down a new deal, he is willing to negotiate
He was a revelation for the Swans for the few games he played this season, and now it emerges Sam Parker has ‘turned down’ a new Swansea City contract. News is thin on the ground, and some of it just incorrect as he looks to involve his representatives in some further negotiations. Plus his current contract runs for two more years.
