David Jones was not happy with the Welsh media but says he is treating Swansea as just another game
Jones said in his press conference ahead of the third derby of the season that the media had been stirring things up - a reference to the reporting about the flag incident from the Millennium Stadium in 2005.
The Cardiff manager believes that as the two teams try to operate in a calm manner the media bringing up these incidents doesn't help and he said “I read the papers this morning and they are bringing up something that happened three years ago with Lee Trundle and the boy Tate.
“If we’re talking about trying to keep things calm then why bring things like that up. It’s crazy.
“We will go out in a professional manner and I am sure Swansea will be the same.”
The Cardiff manager - always one to say what he is thinking - also replied curtly to a question about players already losing their heads this season by saying “One person lost his head, not people,
“Now we have to make sure we keep ticking along and that’s what I’ll be telling the players.
“It’s an important game for them just as much as us.
“Everyone has to be responsible and just go out and play and that’s what we get paid for.
“We have to compete with them and be at our best as always.
“It has all the ingredients to be a good derby game, there will be lots of passion, lots of noise.
“But the tables are turned now in that we are at home and will have more fans and I am expecting them to make lots of noise.
“The Ninian Park factor always plays a part in what we try and do and I would not expect it to be any different on Sunday.
“There is edge in that it is a derby and you get every legend, every ex-player, coming out and talking about what it was like when they played, but Sunday is about us,” he added.
“But at the end of the day we need maximum points to keep our surge on in our quest to get out of this division.
“In that respect the only difference is that it’s a derby game which comes with passion and emotion.
“We want the points as much as Roberto will want them for his team.
“All the passion comes from the fans, but it is up to the players to go out and perform.
“In the last meeting it was a good game and if we can get the same quality as last time we played them without the sending-off then maybe it will be a good day for us.
It is another 90 minutes like any other, last week was a big game for us, so was the week before.
“It is about three points.
“When we get this game out of the way we will soon be asked about losing the last few games at Ninian Park.
“We just have to get on with it and make sure we utilise our home advantage whoever we are playing.
“I hear people saying the pressure is on us, but it’s no more on us than them whatsoever.
“We have set professional standards here and we seek to maintain those standards week in, week out, no matter who we are playing.”
