The Swans moved a relatively comfortable seven points clear of the relegation zone in the Premier League after a comfortable 3-0 win over Norwich at the Liberty Stadium this afternoon with just one more win probably likely to be enough to secure safety for another season.
Two goals from Jonathan De Guzman in the first half and a Wayne Routledge strike in the second half were enough to secure a valuable win for the Swans with a performance that nicely followed up their spirited display at Arsenal on Tuesday night.
De Guzman's first half double eased much of the nerves that were around the Liberty Stadium first firing home from the edge of the area after some good work on the Swansea right before grabbing his second eight minutes later after a superbly worked one-two with Wilfried Bony.
It wasn't all plain sailing for the Swans from there though as Norwich pushed on more in the second half and Vorm had to produce a couple of good saves to keep the Swans with a two goal advantage but for once we always looked dangerous going forward in the second half and it was no real surprise when Routledge picked up a Shelvey cross and made it 3-0.
There are times though when you look back at a game though and pinpoint a moment where a game could have been won or lost and I think that Ashley Williams' goal line clearance early in the second half is the won that ensured we went onto win this game. Given our recent nervousness in the second half of games to concede so early in the second half would I think have created a lot of tension around the Liberty that would have potentially cost us more than just the one goal that would have been scored.
Whether seasons turn on such an incident I have no idea but the table all of a sudden looks much different after four points in two games and those relegation fears that were so strong last weekend all of a sudden seem so distant as you see the bottom 3 or 4 clubs closing in on being cast adrift.
For Norwich they know that their own future is very much in their hands but a win today would probably have been enough for them to secure their own fourth consecutive campaign and they suffered their first Premier League defeat at the hands of the Swans.
For all Garry Monk has been criticised in recent weeks for being tactically naive today he got it right with his midfield trio of Britton, Shelvey and Michu well supported by the width offered by Routledge and De Guzman both of whom offered a continual threat to the Norwich defence.
So probably just one more win and we can start planning next years road trips and that could come next week at Hull although you just suspect in that game that a point will be sufficient for both teams as mid table beckons.
