Rangel: We Were Sloppy Second Half

Angel Rangel believes that the Swans were sloppy in the second half at Stamford Bridge as they lost their perfect start to the season with a 4-2 defeat to the title favourites.

The Swans led early doors in the game thanks to a John Terry own goal - the former England captain being unable to do anything but turn Neil Taylor's perfect cross into the back of his net. However, an equaliser in the last minute of the first half put the momentum in favour of the home time going into the interval and with Diego Costa completing a hat trick in the second half and a first Chelsea goal for Remy, the Swans were beaten but by no means disgraced as they lost a game for the first time this season.

And maybe it says something about the standards being set at the Liberty at the moment that Rangel was so disappointed in defeat yesterday although you can probably assume that better sides than us will be beaten by Chelsea this season.

The long serving defender was critical of the way the Swans performed in the second half and if that is a viewpoint that we can take forward to the next games then the likes of Southampton and Sunderland need to look out with the Swans ready to bounce back as soon as they can.

"We were great for the first 25 minutes. We were very bright and started on the front foot,” said the Spanish right-back "We created many chances, and that is the way we intend to start games.

"We were very good in possession and comfortable in the first half but in the second half we were far too sloppy. That’s what created problems for us in what was a very bad second half.

"We played against one of the top teams in Britain or Europe, but the world. To maintain this level for 90 minutes is difficult.

"The goal before half-time killed our momentum while in the second half we were sloppy and they took their chances. It was like a slap in the face.

"It was disappointing to lose, but we will take it as a learning curve. We know if we are to improve we have to maintain the level of performance for 90 minutes. "

Brave Swans in memorable game at Carrow Road
It was a pulsating game to watch and very much one of my favourite away games of the season. The Swans looked an entirely different side to that we saw at Middlesbrough when it is clear a catalyst for commitment was agreed behind the scenes at Swansea City. To a man every player grafted and wore the shirt with pride. To see the players really acknowledge the Swans support at Carrow Road this afternoon was emotional.
