The Saints come marching into town tomorrow looking to break the Swans perfect home record just a week after the perfect league record disappeared last weekend at Stamford Bridge.
It is 3rd against 4th at the Liberty with both sides knowing that a win tomorrow will maintain their position in the Champions League spots for another week. The Swans have played three times at the Liberty so far this season and won all three without conceding a goal and that is exactly the kind of fortress we would like to make this place going forward.
The Saints are one of just two sides to beat us in our last 8 league games having won at the Liberty towards the end of last season thanks to one of the most farcical goals we conceded last season right at the end of what was a pretty dull encounter between two sides who had nothing to play for.
Tomorrow is different to this as both sides have plenty to play for and having both appointed a new permanent manager since the turn of the New Year both Garry Monk and Ronald Koeman are making people sit up and take notice of the way their teams are playing.
Southampton eclipsed our passing goal against Man Utd on the opening day with a 41 pass move of their own last weekend to score the 4th against Newcastle to lift themselves into the Top 4 with 7 points from the 12 available to date.
It looks like being another home sell out at the Liberty as well as the public turn up to back the team once again something which is made even more impressive by the fact that Southampton gave back a large chunk of their tickets for sale to home fans.
The match for me marks the first of three more winnable games as we head towards the net international break of the season and there is no reason why we could not head into that break with upwards of 15 point from 21 in the bag which would be a third of last season's total already. That probably gives you an idea of how far we have progressed in terms of our ability and results even in such a short period of time although obviously there is a reasonable amount of optimism there and we know that we will not be taking these games lightly.
Given our start to the season it is hard for me to think anything other than a win from tomorrow's game and I do think that Southampton's league position is inflated slightly by the opposition although - like us - I guess you can only beat the teams that are in front of you.
Whatever happens tomorrow I think it will be one of the most attractive fixtures of the day for people to watch with both teams keen to pass the ball around neatly so it will be interesting to see how that works and I think that could well play into our hands rather than be a problem for us.
