Saints Linked With Dirk Kuyt
Ronald Koeman is looking to bolster Saints squad further in January and for once it could be a Liverpool legend heading to St Mary's instead of out of it.
Ronald Koeman reminds me very much of Laurie McMenemy in some respects in that he is not afraid to bring in an older experienced player if he feels that it will bolster the squad, therefore it should come as no surprise that he is being linked with Fenerbahce's ex Liverpool legend Dirk Kuyt.
Some Saints supporters will question why we would want to sign a player who will be 35 next summer nada claim that it shows a lack of ambition, however Koeman knows that a squad needs to be diverse if it is to give options, plus he knows he may lose Sadio Mane for a month or so after the new year for the African Nations cup, he will need someone who can offer an alternative for a short period rather than having to shell out big money.
Kuyt would offer cover in several positions and even at 34 is still playing and scoring for Fenerbahce as well as playing for Holland in the World Cup in Brazil.
Signing Kuyt would be another step forward for Saints in building not just a team but a squad as well as the ability to bring in name players albeit that some may be at the tail end of their careers.
Sound familiar ? It should do, this was how McMenemy built and re built his Saints teams, he knew the value of a few experienced old heads around the squad, it seems Koeman things along those lines as well for sure.

The fate today’s Swansea footballers would never have to endure Swansea City bring this season to a close on Saturday with a home game against Millwall. However, what about those bygone days when footballers had no choice but to go down the pit after their career ended, or open a toy shop, pub or retrain ? That thought would petrify todays modern footballer.
Brave Swans in memorable game at Carrow Road It was a pulsating game to watch and very much one of my favourite away games of the season. The Swans looked an entirely different side to that we saw at Middlesbrough when it is clear a catalyst for commitment was agreed behind the scenes at Swansea City. To a man every player grafted and
wore the shirt with pride. To see the players really acknowledge the Swans support at Carrow Road this afternoon was emotional.
Swansea reject Cullen contract and trigger one year option Liam Cullen has had his request for a new contract dismissed by Swansea City after discussions broke down last week. The lowest paid ‘senior’ player at the club ( he is twenty five) asked for a better contract increasing his £3,500 a week to around £7,000 a week over three years.
Sam Parker hasn’t turned down a new deal, he is willing to negotiate He was a revelation for the Swans for the few games he played this season, and now it emerges Sam Parker has ‘turned down’ a new Swansea City contract. News is thin on the ground, and some of it just incorrect as he looks to involve his representatives in some further negotiations. Plus his current contract runs for two more years.
