Defeats For West Brom And Saints But Watford Win

Pre-season matches are now starting to get into full swing and there were games yesterday for Watford, Southampton and West Brom but only one of them secured a win, Watford beating St Albans 4-0.

Here on Planet Swans we will bring you the news as we can for our Premier League opponents pre-season games so you can see how other teams are shaping up for the new season

St Albans City 0 Watford 4

He had been linked with a move to the Swans in the summer and Odion Ighalo was on target for Watford in their pre-season friendly, scoring twice in a 4-0 win at St Albans.

Another reported Swans target in Troy Deeney - fresh from his new contract - and Connor Smith completed the scoring as Watford started their pre-season campaign with an easy win.

New Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores said "This is our first match and we have been training for a week so at the moment important thing is to take an impression of how the players can compete.

"But at the moment this kind of match is normal in the first weeks of pre-season.”

Southampton 4 RB Leipzig 5

Southampton were edged out in their first pre-season game, losing out to the odd goal in nine during an entertaining encounter.

Two late goals though did give the scoreline some credibility with the Saints goals coming from Jay Rodriguez (2) and debut strikes from Juanmi and Cédric Soares.

As they prepare for their own return to Europe this year, Saints boss Ronald Koeman said
"Nine goals. That’s not always good but that’s not the most important at the moment,”

"The most important is we get minutes, and of course we had a lot of under-21 players.

"You saw the difference between Leipzig and Southampton about the physical stage at the moment. They started three weeks earlier than us and they have already played two friendlies."

Red Bull Salzburg 3 West Brom 1

West Brom were beaten in their opener by the Champions of Austria.

The Baggies fielded 21 different players during the game with one of the Salzburg goals coming from Jonatan Soriano who the Swans tried to sign back in 2011.

Adil Nabi grabbed a consolation goal for West Brom
