Manchester CIty and Southampton Win But It's Defeat For Bournemouth

Raheem Sterling scored his first goal for Manchester City but Bournemouth are beaten at Salisbury whilst Southampton continue their busy pre-season with ten goals in Holland

Roma 2 Manchester City 2 (Manchester City win 5-4 on penalties)

It was an interesting start to the International Champions Cup for Manchester City as big money signing Raheem Sterling opened his City account with a goal just two minutes into his debut.

Sterling latched onto a through ball from Kelechi and finished coolly past Morgan De Sanctis to open his City account in style.

Roma hit back soon after but Kelechi restored the Man City lead in the second half before Roma forced the game to penalties.

It was Joe Hart who won the game though for City with two penalty saves and he scored the winning spot kick to give City the win in front of more than 40,000 in Melbourne.

Salisbury City 2 Bournemouth 1

Harry Cornick was the Cherries’ stand out performer at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium and put the visitors ahead midway through the first half.

The under-21s player of the season had further chances after the break, but Patrick Nolan pulled the Whites level with a close range finish 25 minutes from time.

Salisbury completed the turn around heading into the final stages with Mark Ford coming up with a cool finish.

KVV Quick ‘20 0 Southampton 10

Southampton reached double figures against Dutch amateur side KVV Quick ‘20 in their latest pre-season game

Graziano Pellè scored a first-half hat-trick, Jay Rodriguez grabbed his third and fouth goals of pre-season and Steven Davis was also at the double before the break.

Substitutes Jordan Turnbull and Juanmi added second-half goals to extend Saints’ advantage, before Rodriguez grabbed his hat-trick and the tenth goal for Ronald Koeman’s men late on.

Koeman said We knew that it would be an easy game but to score ten times is nice

"I think more important is that some players played 90 minutes and that’s the biggest thing — we do not have injuries from this game.

"It’s not just the game, it’s also good training. You know in this type of game 80 per cent of the time you will have ball possession. We like to play the way we like to train.
