Monk Surprised By Michu Uncertainty

I am still amazed how much things have gone wrong for Michu which for me shows just how quick good things can turn sour in football when you could in theory have a talent like Michu not playing football for any period of time.

The Swans and the player are clearly waiting to part company. It is a sad end for a player who just three years ago was one of the hottest properties in the Premier League in his debut season. It was August 2012 when Michu scored twice on the opening day as the Swans won 5-0 at QPR and it set the tone for a brilliant season that saw us win our first major trophy in the Capital One Cup and be safe from relegation by the time the calendar turned to March.

The following season just looked like a continuation of the previous one with Michu's goal in the Mestalla being part of one of the most famous nights ever for Swansea City as they beat the Spanish side Valencia 3-0.

That though was probably the last real high of Michu's time here. An injury and the departure of Michael Laudrup turned Michu's time here in his head and last season he headed off to Napoli on loan. That didn't work out and now he wants to return to Spain with the sticking point almost seemingly the fact that Michu seems to want us to completely bend over backwards to facilitate that move.

To be fair to the club they do seem to be doing what they can to make the split between player and club but it is still a surprise to Monk that it hasn't actually happened yet although he does seem to think that the bigger surprise almost is that nobody has come in for him

Monk said "The situation hasn’t changed; the chairman is talking to his representatives and trying to come up with a solution that suits both parties — and it would be great if that can happen sooner rather than later for Michu and for the club.

"I am little surprised that nothing has happened yet. Michu is a good player.

"But these things happen and it was his choice to go to Napoli — he wasn’t forced out. It didn’t quite work out for him and the group have moved on and he has moved on as well.

"It’s important for him to go and start playing football again, and it’s important for the club to find a solution.

"Hopefully it can be sorted soon because that’s the best for both parties. We will see.”

I suspect that Garry is probably fed up answering questions about the player given the excellent work that he did through the summer and of course the brilliant start next weekend so a quick move on would be better for all concerned.
