Monk Praise For Everton Stance

John Stones was denied a Chelsea move in the last transfer window by Everton who refused to let one of their stars leave despite the best efforts of the Champions to unsettle him and it is a stance that is admired by Swansea manager Garry Monk.

It looked almost certain that Stones would be on his way to Stamford Bridge as Chelsea made public their pursuit of the defender but Everton - led by Chairman Bill Kenwright - refused to let the player leave and the window closed with him still at Goodison Park.

There was some public squabbling between the two managers as Roberto Martinez criticised the way that Chelsea had pursued the player while Mourinho as part of what is a bad time for him had no real answer.

The last laugh belonged to Everton with Stones excellent in their game last week as Everton beat the Champions to send them into the game against us this week with confidence high.

Speaking ahead of the game on the Stones subject, Monk said "I personally admire that because it's very difficult for clubs like Everton and ourselves - clubs outside that top six - when teams come in for your players.

"It's not just this league, but other leagues as well, that teams can come in and poach a player and wave that cheque in your face.

"Sometimes it's very difficult to stop a player having his head turned in those situations. It is a so-called step up and a different pay packet I would imagine, but that's testament to the club.

"They've stayed strong from the start and it doesn't look like it's distracted him. He's a very good player and you can see why he's attracted the interest he's attracted.

"But all credit to him. He looks to be getting on with it, which is what you should do as a player."
