As the Swans were beaten at Southampton yesterday there was a consistent message that came out of the players and management at the end of the game and that was one that said the performance was not good enough for what we have come to expect.
It is all well and good saying that though but what is really needed for the performances that are not good enough to be put behind us and show us next week on the pitch that we are capable of putting in a performance more in keeping with the first three weeks of the season rather than the last two.
That is the biggest challenge as we are on a run of four games without a win and with just one goal - Gylfi's penalty - to show for that four game run as we have dropped from fourth in the table to the bottom half.
We cannot keep going on making excuses for performances that do not reach the standards because people will start believing this is the norm and the better performances are the occasional ones.
Sigurdsson scored his first goal of the season in the closing stages of the game at Southampton after his own disappointing start to the season and we have to hope that it is the kick start for his season too.
"It was nice to get my first goal of the season, but at the end of the day it’s all about the result" he said.
"It was disappointing, we wanted to bounce back after the defeat at Watford and the draw against Everton, but it wasn’t to be.
"We started off slowly and were still in the game at one-nil, but we made a couple of mistakes, which they took advantage of.
"It was difficult going forward. They defended well and we found it hard to break them down.
"Towards the end of the game, we passed the ball better, there was more movement in midfield and we created a few chances, but didn’t deserve to win."
