Nathan Redmond worth more than Virgil Van Dijk !

Is Nathan Redmond worth more than Virgil Van Dijk ? Arron Sanders looks at that claim from the International Centre For Sports Studies.

According to the Football Observatory’s algorithm, Redmond is worth more than Van Dijk.

The International Centre for Sports Studies research group have developed on a "scientific basis the value of professional football players”

The algorithm which helps them work out what a player’s price tag is based on large number of previous transfer deals which involved a fee being paid.

The latest results estimate that the value of all players plying their trade in the leading European leagues including: the Premier League, Spanish La Liga, Italian Serie A, German Bundesliga and French Ligue 1.

A total of 110 players are deemed to be worth more than 40m euros, with two Saints players are on that list.

Nathan Redmond comes out as the clubs most valuable player worth a muted 60.2m Euros with Virgil Van Dijk rated at around 46.6m Euros.

These are interesting results given the amounts of money being paid in the current transfer window, and certainly throws a result almost every Saints fan would disagree with you would think.

It also goes against the £60-70m value being thrown about in the media for Virgil Van Dijk this summer.

The studies results for the top ten of most valuable players, sees Barcelona’s Neymar top the list with a price tag of 210m euros, followed by Tottenham pair Dele Alli (155.1m) and Harry Kane (153.6m).

Lionel Messi (151.7m) comes in fourth, with Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann (150.3m), Barcelona’s Luis Suarez (140.8m ), Manchester United’s Paul Pogba (134.3m), Gonzalo Higuain of Juventus (120.2m) Chelsea’s Eden Hazard (117.2m) and Juve’s Paulo Dybala (115.3m) completing the top ten.

Are there any Saints that would agree with the findings of this study? who do you rate as Saints' current most valuable player?

Brave Swans in memorable game at Carrow Road
It was a pulsating game to watch and very much one of my favourite away games of the season. The Swans looked an entirely different side to that we saw at Middlesbrough when it is clear a catalyst for commitment was agreed behind the scenes at Swansea City. To a man every player grafted and wore the shirt with pride. To see the players really acknowledge the Swans support at Carrow Road this afternoon was emotional.

He was a revelation for the Swans for the few games he played this season, and now it emerges Sam Parker has ‘turned down’ a new Swansea City contract. News is thin on the ground, and some of it just incorrect as he looks to involve his representatives in some further negotiations. Plus his current contract runs for two more years.
