We Need To Make Gylfi Decisions Quickly

The Swans need to bring the Gylfi to Everton saga to a close as soon as is feasibly possible as the playing hardball could eventually come back and hurt us if we don't conclude it very soon.

The players continued absence from the squad that is on the US tour suggests that - despite newspaper reports - his time at Swansea has almost certainly come to an end or at least that the player does not want to be here any more.

Whether we like it or not the players generally hold all the cards when it comes to forcing transfers and the moment he elected not to travel with the squad I think it heralded a moment that said it was just a matter of time before he moved on.

It is all well and good the Swans holding out for more money but with the player seemingly set on a move away we have to accept that there will need to be life after Sigurdsson and start planning for spending the money.

The very real danger could be that this drags on into August and we end up dragged into a late sale of the player and very little time left in the window to draft in replacements. If that isn't bad enough it would mean that any replacements have no time to settle into the squad and that would set us back even more.

It is difficult to know what the real value of a player of Sigurdsson's quality is as the transfer market really has gone mad this summer - the prices paid for Jordan Pickford and Kyle Walker tell you that straight away but it is a brave card that we have played by turning down such a huge bid.

Wales Online are sensationalising a headline with a belief that Sigurdsson can say when Paul Clement really gave nothing away of the sort just saying that a quick resolution is needed which is right in line with my belief that it is what should happen.

I really cannot se Sigurdsson being at the club come the start of the season and on that basis it will be better for all concerned if the deal is completed very soon as that season is just three weeks away.

Brave Swans in memorable game at Carrow Road
It was a pulsating game to watch and very much one of my favourite away games of the season. The Swans looked an entirely different side to that we saw at Middlesbrough when it is clear a catalyst for commitment was agreed behind the scenes at Swansea City. To a man every player grafted and wore the shirt with pride. To see the players really acknowledge the Swans support at Carrow Road this afternoon was emotional.
