Wales very much in the play off picture today

Swansea City will be trying to emulate their success 10 years ago by winning promotion to the English Premier League. That is their target in the Championship play-off final today. The Swans will face Brentford at Wembley, with a few thousand supporters allowed to travel from south Wales to attend the event in London which kicks-off at 3pm. Winning the Championship play-off final is believed to be worth up to £170m to the winner because of the sponsorship available to Premier League clubs.

Swansea defeated Barnsley to reach the final, while Brentford beat Bournemouth. The Swans defeated Reading in this game in 2011, resulting in a seven-year period in the Premier League.
Having dropped back into the Championship in 2018 the club and fans have been desperate to return to the highest level. Brentford finished the season in third place in the Championship, while Swansea were fourth, and the result was a 1-1 equaliser both times for the teams to challenge each other in the regular season. The two teams also faced each other in the semi-finals of the play-offs last year, with the London club successful on that occasion but losing to Fulham in the final. Swansea manager, Steve Cooper, from Pontypridd, said winning promotion would "mean everything” to the club.

But Swansea are not the only Welsh club with a key game on Saturday, with Caernarfon and Newtown fighting for a place in the Europa League for next season. Fans are not being allowed to attend the match at The Oval ground in Caernarfon, despite calls from supporters and from Plaid Cymru. The game has already kicked off and is being showed live on the Sgorio Facebook channel on — with Jack Kenny having scored the first goal for the home side after lobbing the keeper.

The Welsh Premier League’s play-off game has been described as "the biggest game in the history of Caernarfon Football Club”, while Newtown won play-off in 2015. Wrexham are also playing the last game of the season in the English National League, with the hope of securing their place in the play-off games. If the Dragons win in the away game at Dagenham and Redbridge, they will certainly be of their place in the play-offs. Then, on Monday, Newport will take on Morecambe in the Final of The Division Two play-offs, with the Welsh team also aiming for promotion.

Brave Swans in memorable game at Carrow Road

The Swans looked an entirely different side to that we saw at Middlesbrough when it is clear a catalyst for commitment was agreed behind the scenes at Swansea City. To a man every player grafted and wore the shirt with pride. To see the players really acknowledge the Swans support at Carrow Road this afternoon was emotional.
