It was literally a few days after the defeat to Brentford in the championship play off final at Wembley when the writing on the wall became apparent regards Steve Cooper’s future at Swansea City. There was already some very obvious issues between Cooper and CEO Julian Winter even before the final, but afterwards the whole thing came to a head.
Swansea Independent reported that the two characters were already at loggerheads and then on June 2nd last year we felt it was time to blow open the Steve Cooper problem from within the club. It wasn’t done for any other reason than to keep the credibility of the swans intact. The people involved meant nothing to us at all. And all this just two days after the play off final. Our more avid readers will recall this well.

Of course the wheels started to turn and every day Cooper was linked with numerous clubs after the national media caught up a week later, but that was the meeting which ended Cooper’s time at Swansea City. Cooper’s absence from the club became even more evident as the summer progressed, players like Joel Piroe were signed and Cooper was nowhere to be seen. Swans fans were looking for any reason to not believe it was all over, picking away at very slight changes to feed their rhetoric. But of course we know, Steve Cooper was given the ultimatum two days after that play off final and from there on in the road to leaving was to be a contentious one.

It all went well for Steve Cooper after that, Nottingham Forest earned his signature, but not until they were almost hopelessly stranded near the foot of the championship table. That was near the end of September last year. Now Forest are fighting to get into the premier league. Alan Tate joined him as well, the so called ‘Swansea legend’ seemingly forced out at Swansea City by the new managerial team and no doubt down to his lack of awareness as to what Russell Martin actually wanted from his staff. If he wasn’t then packing him out on the road to do some form of made up job regards loan players seemed an odd move.
Tate looked isolated so he took advantage, walked away and joined Steve Cooper at Forest.
The question did come up recently regards Steve Cooper and the early signs of his Swansea departure, so we thought it’s about time we had a look back to eleven months ago. Tomorrow that extra edge will surface again we are sure, Cooper has to win and Swansea have nothing to lose. It’s going to be a cracker.
