Joe Allen signing for Swansea City is now very much on at last !

We have been told that the signing of Joe Allen is pretty much a formality and that he has patiently waited for the swans to move on one of their big guns to enable him to join Swansea City. Already in west Wales it is hoped that the swans can finalise terms with him and complete a medical by the end of Friday.

The medical will be the only thing to stop him now.

This isn’t a surprise, ever since Joe turned down a new Stoke City contract offer it’s been a waiting game for him. Preliminary talks have taken place over the past three weeks or so but the swans wanted to be sure there was a fit for him at the club, and of course establish his salary demands. There will be a decent signing on fee no doubt, and a salary very much reduced to what he is used to but it is believed his contract could still peak at around £700,000 a year on a two year deal with an option for one more. That’s the swans preference, obviously the player will want three years, but swans fans and Joe Allen should be happy there’s the possibility this evening of a return to the club.

Allen has been patient, he has had a number of offers to look at, however he is determined to settle down now in west Wales with his family close by, and of course his wife Lacey Jo and their son Alfie. She is very interested in animal conservation and it is expected that will form a part of their lives in Wales. The couple married just over eight years ago. The majority of swans fans will welcome this move, when it’s thought through there’s nothing but positives to say regards Joe signing again for the swans.

We are also told this evening that two other players are in the early stages of talking to Swansea City, one is believed to be a utility type of player which indicates to us another wing back with other skillsets. And of course with Steven Benda seemingly no longer in Russell Martin’s immediate thoughts the other could well be a goalkeeper.

Time will reveal all, but for now it’s looking like Joe Allen is about to make a happy return to Swansea City. Chickens and all.

Swans scrap it out to beat the Baggies
There were some worried looks when Swansea head coach, Vitor Matos announced his starting eleven against West Bromwich Albion, not least the fact he had no striker in the team. It turned out to be a masterstroke despite a fifteen minute period in the second half, and some uneasy moments at the end of this Championship fixture.
