Swansea City - The misery of the tape & Oxford build up

The stats never lie apparently, but after yesterdays league game against Blackburn the swans do have a unique stat of their own. After two games they can certainly pass a football.

There was little if anything to come out of the game, and the best stat regards Russell Martin’s allegations of the rovers bench belittling him would have been aggression shown out of ten from the bench to the players he is in charge of.

Swansea City had 655 passes to Rovers’ 234, and enjoyed 71 per cent possession. However, of those 655 passes, more than half were made by the Swansea back three, with Rovers restricting striker Michael Obafemi to just 15 touches across the 90 minutes.

The swans travel to Oxford United on Tuesday night in the League Cup. We can expect changes, in goal but it really doesn’t matter, in defence swans fans will want to see Ben Cabango most certainly. If the manager is to be believed then Harry Darling and Nathan Wood require more time on the pitch. Matt Sorinola needs more time as well in a competitive game. Cameron Congreve should play as will Liam Cullen or Kyle Joseph if he is still at the club in what to us looks like a toothless attack. Other bench warmers will be looking to start, Oli Cooper especially in a cup game that can possibly lift the dressing room if the swans can secure a win.

Ryan Manning was possibly the best Swansea player on the pitch yesterday, and as he hasn’t had too many games maybe Martin will include him as well. Another large Swansea support is expected at the game which kicks off at 7.45pm on Tuesday night at the Kassam Stadium.

Brave Swans in memorable game at Carrow Road
It was a pulsating game to watch and very much one of my favourite away games of the season. The Swans looked an entirely different side to that we saw at Middlesbrough when it is clear a catalyst for commitment was agreed behind the scenes at Swansea City. To a man every player grafted and wore the shirt with pride. To see the players really acknowledge the Swans support at Carrow Road this afternoon was emotional.

He was a revelation for the Swans for the few games he played this season, and now it emerges Sam Parker has ‘turned down’ a new Swansea City contract.
