It’s Cymru all week on Swansea Independent

With two Nations League games coming up, the first on Thursday away in Belgium and the second at home on the following Sunday there much to look forward to during this international break. Below we review these games with latest news and include the squad as it stands today, as ever we can expect some withdrawals.

Cymru will first face Belgium in Brussels on Thursday 22nd September, before the final match of the League A campaign against Poland on Sunday 25th September at the Cardiff City Stadium (KO 7.45pm for both matches). The match against Poland will be Cymru’s final match before the 2022 FIFA World Cup and tickets are still available for the game.

Wales have lost three of their opening four fixtures by very narrow margins, the fourth a draw at home against Belgium in June. Like England Wales are bottom of their group.

There were some worried looks when Swansea head coach, Vitor Matos announced his starting eleven against West Bromwich Albion, not least the fact he had no striker in the team. It turned out to be a masterstroke despite a fifteen minute period in the second half, and some uneasy moments at the end of this Championship fixture.

Swansea City won away for the first time under Vitor Matos, a 1-0 win at Oxford to complete the monthly double on the U’s. It was a scrappy game but the Swans thoroughly deserved to go home with the points.
